I am a ball of stress. I just found out that I'm losing my job and I'm spotting again. I need to calm down but I can't. I've tried deep breathing but I still feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin. Any suggestions?
Man, I'm so sorry. I'm very sound oriented, so meandering meditation music always helps me. Or some white noise, like running water. Something to give my mind to focus on other than my thoughts while I breathe. You might try some stretching at the same time, and put your mind into the tight spots as you breathe.
I'm sorry; walking helps me sometimes. Are you at home? Sometimes I wash dishes or clean something. The monotonous tasks help. If you're not home, try sorting paper clips or something. Anything that requires minimum brain activity.
I'm so sorry. Hugs. katfco has good advice. Mundane tasks that can keep you occupied are good. Something as simple as counting and focusing how long each breath takes? Anything that occupies your mind so that you can't think of other things.
Do you knit or crochet? Sometimes I need the repetitive motion of that activity to soothe my mind. I don't even always make something - just a long chain or something.
Breathing techniques help me sometimes. Listening to a favorite CD, chamomile tea. I also knit or crochet to relax, although I do get mad at that sometimes too, lol. Can you go for a walk/jog and listen to music? Getting some exercise can help you feel better physically too.

Could you try Bach's Rescue Remedy? A few drops of that in some herbal teai might do the trick.
I've never heard of Bach's. I'll have to look into it.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm sitting at work now trying to figure out what I'm doing. I'm trying to be positive and feeding myself motivational phrases. Everything happens for a reason. When one door closes another opens.

Oh yes. Knitting works for me too. And oddly, when I was stressed out in HS from time to time, untangling large tangles of string or yarn also calmed me down. I know it sounds like it would be endlessly frustrating, but it was something about focusing on the problem and reorganizing chaos that helped I think.
