Has anyone dealt with this? We were visiting my parents last week and were in a car accident. Everyone is fine (except the car!). I gave them the info on the car seat so that they could get reimbursed for it.
I brought the car seat home with it - not planning to reuse it- plan was to cut straps and throw in trash. Insurance company is asking for the seat. I would have to ship it and I know it costs like $50.00. I told my parents to ask if they would reimburse for the shipping.
Has anyone had experience with the insurance company requesting the seat? Is this necessary??
Most likely they are wanting to have possession of the seat so that they know you aren't getting a new seat out of them and also continuing to use the old seat as well. You could ask them if you could cut the straps/etc and submit a picture to them of the destroyed seat instead.
Mine did with my laptop when it was damaged in a car accident. They came to a location that I decided at a time I decided and collected it from me and gave me a recipient. I think they handed me the check on the spot also (or it came in the mail a few days later). It was Progressive.
I am sure a local rep will come get it and you dont need to ship it.

I recently got into an accident and I just had to take the car seat to a local geico adjuster- i bought a new seat, he reimbursed me and took the old seat all at his office. It was the easiest part of the entire ordeal.
GEICO required that I turn mine in so they could dispose of it. Maybe since they aren't nearby you could ask if you can cut the straps and send a picture to your adjuster?
I was in an accident last week and sent them the receipt for the new seat the next day. I hope they don't ask for the seat back, as they never mentioned it and I've already tossed it. The seat was only a week old too. What a shame.
