That is steep where does he work if you don't mind sharing. When I worked in DC it was $200 a month. I know that was on the lower end for the city other areas downtown were closer to $300.
I pay $650 a year. For that, I get access to a garage a 10 minute walk from my office. I could pay twice that and cut the walk to three minutes but I won't.
It would be $6.00 per day if I drove, but it is also offsite and requires a shuttle. If I take public transport I get paid an additional $4.00 and I get an unlimited bus/train pass for free.
$45/month for a 15 minute walk from work. $100/month for a less than five minute walk. Both uncovered. For covered parking next door it is $125-$150/month.
About $100 a month for a ramp across from my building. There are some surface lots a block further for $70 a month, but the thought of shoveling snow off my car after work is not appealing.

$51 a month, in a city with pretty much free parking everywhere else (but I work on a hospital campus, and the surrounding streets have been made "no parking zones").
My monthly fee gets me no guarantee of a spot whatsoever (awesome, when I come and go to appointments 2+ times/day), and could be an open lot which was taken over by snowbanks this year, or could be on the roof/8th floor three parking garages away.
I paid $95/month for an uncovered surface lot at my old job. Free parking was a pretty good walk away. I lost my pass once in February and decided I'd rather pay than to have to make that walk every day in the snow.
ETA: my pass didn't guarantee me a spot either since it was for a city lot that also allowed hourly/daily parking. I was always pissed when I couldn't find a spot.
Jesus, that's a lot. I don't actually know, but my hotel pays for an unreserved spot in a covered city garage right next door. I would imagine it's a couple hundred a month at least if I were to acquire a spot on my own.
