We are gonna list our house and we filled out paperwork today, one of which was disclosing all the things that you know are wrong with the house. I put down that we get standing water in the backyard when we get heavy storms. It can get bad very quickly if you dunno what to do and had we been not so naive we would have gone after the previous owners since they did not disclosed it to us. However, it doesn't effect the house or garage at all. We have no basement to flood either.
Anyway, obviously we don't wanna scare buyers off about it, so it's not something we'd make a huge deal about, but the form specifically asked of any part of our property gets standing water ever. So now, DH is pissy that I mentioned something and made me feel guilty like I had broken a secret pact about it. I'm like- hello! I don't wanna get in trouble later! It's literally the only non- perfect thing on the form.
Anyway, I need a voice of reason here. I didn't ruin anything by disclosing it, right?
Of course not! You did the right thing. Previous owners of our house disclosed standing water issues in the crawl space, but they really understated the extent of the issue. We still bought it but were really mad the first big storm. I still can believe they lived there 40 years and never put in a French drain/sump pump. We would have still bought the house but asked for some money off the price to pay for the drain.
