I started looking for nursery ideas this weekend and planning out the room. The room has light sage green walls, cherry trim, white closet doors, and natural hickory floors. I'll post pictures later this week hopefully.
1.) If you have any pinterest boards, links, or inspiration pictures please post them here! Especially if you have anything with wood tones...these all white nurseries aren't really our style.
2.) Does anyone remember which nestie (from the nest days) had the long antique dresser that they painted white and stained the top? There may be more than one. I think we'd like to do something similar and I'd like some inspiration pictures.
3.) Anyone have any suggestions for what to do/not to do when it comes to nursery design?
For example: Glider vs. rocker? Lots of space next to the changing pad? Mobile over the crib or the changing pad? A decent size end table next the chair to set stuff on? Table lamps for when overhead lights are too bright but no floor lamps? A shelf or table needed for humidifier and monitor near the crib?

1) I don't anymore but I did have a whole board of lovely spaces, so I'll go pull some off.
2) I don't, but I wish I did! That sounds nice.
3) I invested in a nice glider second time around because I spent a lot of time in it. The first one was in a bedroom and never used, but the second is in our living room (still is actually) and so comfortable. I didn't use a changing table because they're uncomfortably tall for me. I'd definitely get a night stand for the monitor and a little lamp. Or install a dimmer if you can for your overhead lights. I've always just put the humidifier on the floor, no table needed. (We only use it when they're sick.)

I'm still in the process of setting up our nursery, but since we are not finding out the gender I've had to go with really neutral tones--which I would have done regardless since it's just more my style. These are my favorite pins:
What we'll end up doing is painting the walls a really light warm gray (carpet is a medium tan), these curtains www.westelm.com/products/cotton-canvas-printed-curtain-etched-grid-t993/?pkey=cwindow-panels-curtains-shades&cm_src=window-panels-curtains-shades||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_- , a white dresser and white night stand, light wood crib and gray rocking chair with matching light wood rockers, a mirror with dark wood trim, and dark wood book case, cream colored sheets and crib skirt. The overhead light is an ORB and white drum light, and the curtain rod is ORB as well. So everything is kind of a mish mash of neutral tans, whites, and creams. I'll make sure to post pics once it's done because this probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense!
We did the changing pad on the dresser. We went with a big leather glider/recliner that will eventually move to the family room. And we've used the recliner a lot, yay teething, cranky baby, etc. (Bedsharing isn't something we're interested in, so the recliner is our go-to).
3) A comfy chair is a must, I really like the glider for rocking J to sleep. I got mine at a furniture store. I love the "poof" for my feet too bc it's not too high (like an ottoman) and I can put my feet in various positions on it for breastfeeding.
Definitely install room darkening shades/curtain.
I like having the open cubby unit in the closet for easy reaching (blankets, sleep sacks, towels, etc.)
I also like having diaper stuff out and within easy reach (as opposed to hiding drawers).
I'm glad I don't have a closed hamper. Wet outfits from spit up (or other fluids) have gone moldy on the bottom of the laundry pile.
ETA: I recommend a ceiling fan too. It helps prevent SIDS and it's just nice to be able to move the air around in the room.
In terms of what to do - keep it simple. You'll acquire stuff along the way as you figure out what you need and your style of parenting, so before the baby is born I preferred to keep it as simple as possible. I'd make a nice nursing or pumping station around the glider - a table next to it, a big basket on the floor for your nursing pillow and little blankets and wipes and the like that tend to accumulate around where you nurse. This is something small, but I really liked to have a little open box on the dresser that kept a big stack of super soft little 4" square wipes that I used to clean their faces. Mine had plugged tear ducts, so I liked having a stack of easily accessible and clean cloths that were dedicated to cleaning their faces and eyes so I didn't have to hunt for them and they didn't get dirty or mixed with other paraphernalia. In general I'd say invest in open boxes, baskets and catchall sorts of containers to have around so you can keep things as clutter free as possible and find binkies and other little things that get lost easily.
Here is a nursery that I love and is so warm and sweet looking. I just love these colors:

I'm not really any help with #3 yet, sorry.
Oh that sounds gorgeous! Yes please post some pictures. We have a somewhat similar color scheme of white, ivory, ORB, and wood tones in our master and I love it.
Thanks for the pictures. I had the first one pinned already. That chair and brass light are to die for.

Lots of good stuff on your board. I'll have to go through that tonight.
I didn't even think about eventually moving the chair out into the LR. I think the two big purchases for the room will be the rug and the chair. The rest of the furniture we're thinking CL, hand me downs, or DIY.
OMG that is so gorgeous! That is one lucky boy. Dumb question that strap on the changing pad is to buckle the child in right? Do you use that often? Also do you have to fasten the pad to the top of the dresser some how?
2) not sure, sounds pretty

I love the "poof" for my feet too bc it's not too high (like an ottoman) and I can put my feet in various positions on it for breastfeeding. Good to know I was really digging those leather poofs that you see everywhere. Not sure how much they are but it seems like something you could use for a long time.
Definitely install room darkening shades/curtain. Yes we'll be doing this. The room gets direct early morning light.
I like having the open cubby unit in the closet for easy reaching (blankets, sleep sacks, towels, etc.) DH just built a tower in the closet with rods on either side. Then we're also thinking of building some short bookshelves for under the window. Bookshelves seem much more versatile than those book rails that fasten to the wall.
I also like having diaper stuff out and within easy reach (as opposed to hiding drawers). I see you have a caddy of stuff hanging on the wall. Is that all for diaper changing?
I'm glad I don't have a closed hamper. Wet outfits from spit up (or other fluids) have gone moldy on the bottom of the laundry pile. Never thought of that. Good tip.
ETA: I recommend a ceiling fan too. It helps prevent SIDS and it's just nice to be able to move the air around in the room. We were thinking of using an oscillating fan instead of an overhead one. That would have to be near the crib somewhere too.

Baskets near the glider/rocker sound like a great idea. I think I'll need to start a collection of open containers because I really don't have many.
I love that pic! Coral is one of my favorite colors right now and I think it would work well with the room color.
I have a picture of the dresser you are talking about on my iPad At home. I will post it tonight
Yeah! I'm really hoping we can find a well built dresser that just needs some love. The white + stained wood combo would really help tie everything together since we already some of that going on with the white closet doors and wood trim. The other bonus is that both bedrooms have that so we can mix and match between rooms someday.

We spent $$$ on the glider and got it from a furniture store, but I'm glad we did.
Here's a photo of it and the back striped wall. (PS-the mobile never got used, I ended up selling it on ebay, lol)
OMG that is so gorgeous! That is one lucky boy. Dumb question that strap on the changing pad is to buckle the child in right? Do you use that often? Also do you have to fasten the pad to the top of the dresser some how? Thank you! I never use the strap. It's never safe to walk away, so it's sort of useless. And as far as I know there's no need to secure the pad to the dresser. Also, right now I'm just using a folded towel as a changing pad b/c I moved that pad downstairs (where he gets changed most often). I need your molding skills - you ,ay have noticed I didn't get around to installing crown molding in there. I'm a step closer though b/c we pulled there air compressor out of the box this weekend.

Good to know I was really digging those leather poofs that you see everywhere. Not sure how much they are but it seems like something you could use for a long time. Not to mention baby proof. No sharp edges, low enough for climbing and sitting.DH sits on it when we both make faces at J in the morning.

I also like having diaper stuff out and within easy reach (as opposed to hiding drawers). I see you have a caddy of stuff hanging on the wall. Is that all for diaper changing? Yes, but you could have a much smaller area. That was a quick solution from Target (since our dresser is too small to put the stuff on top with the pad). We have a long bread basket downstairs w/~10 diapers, hand sanitizer, and wipes -- much more compact.
I'm glad I don't have a closed hamper. Wet outfits from spit up (or other fluids) have gone moldy on the bottom of the laundry pile. Never thought of that. Good tip. You can have a hamper, just be sure to dry stuff or wash it quickly. Our laundry is on the 2nd floor across from the nursery, so it's easy to toss dirty clothes there.
ETA: I recommend a ceiling fan too. It helps prevent SIDS and it's just nice to be able to move the air around in the room. We were thinking of using an oscillating fan instead of an overhead one. That would have to be near the crib somewhere too. That works!
So glad to see you back! DH and I are having SO MUCH FUN being parents! You're in for a treat
I started looking for nursery ideas this weekend and planning out the room. The room has light sage green walls, cherry trim, white closet doors, and natural hickory floors. I'll post pictures later this week hopefully.

1) sorry I don't have any saved. 2) no, but chezerby did the opposite. They had a wood dresser and added a new white laminate top. 3) I agree with the keep it simple. I loved the black out shades. I prefer a rocker because the gliding motion feels unnatural to me and makes me queasy! I'd definitely do a comfy chair with an ottoman & side table. We used our humidifier often and the instructions always say to put it on a table (plus I don't like wood floors getting that much moisture on them).
We did a nice long dresser with changing pad, open bin with diapers/wipes and a lamp on it. Has worked well.
I second the ceiling fan idea. Air movement is important. I like the mobile over the changing table, but don't think it's key to have one at all.
1) I don't have a pinterest board or inspiration pics. And I'm not sure if you'd like our nursery - we went with a lot of color, hardwood floors, and dark cherry furniture. Our trim was white already, so that stayed. But here's the pics anyway:
2) No idea, but sounds great!
3) I really regret buying our particular glider because it doesn't recline. I would be SO much happier if it did recline and I regret not spending the extra $100 to get the better one. I also recommend getting something that locks so an older child can't swing it into the wall constantly... If you're planning to breast feed, a table next to the chair is a must - large enough to hold a book, your phone/tablet, and a big drink. I also have a 3sprouts canvas bin that holds a lot of blankets and a boppy pillow nicely.
We really like the changing pad on top of the dresser. The pad comes with a strap that you screw into the back and it has a buckle so you can remove the pad to clean if necessary, but in general it stays attached... I'm explaining this really badly. But it does attach to the back of the dresser. You can also make a rail to go around the pad. You can see the rail on top of the dresser in my pic above. I really like this setup because it keeps everything from falling off the top even if there's a squirmy baby. And I like the extra space on top (not just stuff stored in drawers) because it's hard to get things out of drawers with a poop covered squirming baby.
We use our table lamp constantly and couldn't do without it. It's really nice to have in the evenings.
We just put the humidifier on top of its box when it's needed. I don't think a special table is necessary. We just did an audio monitor on the floor under the crib, but if you're doing video, I think you need a shelf or to just screw it into the wall.
No photos or boards, but I'll chime in with my experience. Yes to a glider or other comfy chair, a side table, lamp, and ceiling fan. We put the changing pad on the dresser in both rooms and had the diapers/wipes in one of the top drawers. We just use audio monitors and they are on a dresser in one room and a bookshelf in the other. We didn't do a mobile in DD2's room and she hasn't missed it
We had a glider for both kids and loved it (the swaying motion was perfect for them), but with DS we had to move it out of his room around 11 months and put our poang chair in its place since he kept playing with it and was always just missing pinching his fingers. Yes, you'll want a side table or short bookshelf nearby for burp cloths, a drink, lamp, etc.
Don't get sucked into a crib that converts to a full size bed, you'll likely want to change the room before you get to that point anyway. Converting to a toddler bed is nice though.
I really prefer a big dresser to a changing table- more room for supplies right at hand, no fumbling on a shelf underneath, and it's a place for a lamp, humidifier, etc.
Here's DS's nursery, the boat cradle has been replaced by a Hemnes brown-gray crib at this point, and I added navy panels over the shade on the window, as well as the poang chair in place of the glider. pandce.proboards.com/thread/147742/nursery-pips

Here is my original mood board (doesn't look like that now) and some pinterest pictures that I saved a couple years ago before I had my 3rd kiddo that fit your requirements (wood and white in design):
Mood board - not quite this, but we use a desk like this for the changing pad and have a crib and simple futon/couch in there. I love the couch in there - I have slept on it when the baby was sick and we read on it (all 3 boys and me) and it doubles as a play table for DS#3 to put his trains/trucks etc.
Oh and I like rockers over gliders - had a glider with the first and hated it, but my simple wood rocker is awesome and we use that in the living room now.

I've been staring at this photo for a while (although no pinterest boards for this), I've just had it saved to a folder on my computer because I *love* the crib with the hardwood floors:
Thanks for the advice bunnymendelbaum! I'm really liking the long dresser look and it fits well in the room so I'm glad that worked well for you. It will be a long term item that can grow with them as well.
AmyRI that room is adorable!! I love the vertical stripes and mix of white and wood. I also really like the taller back of the crib. Thanks for sharing. Good tip about the reclining glider. I can see that being a lot more comfortable.
Yes sierramist03 that was the one I was thinking of! It's exactly what I'd like to find. Some interesting details on the legs but overall fairly clean lined so it won't be so hard to sand and paint.
Thanks for chiming in justinlove. I have no idea if we're getting an audio or video monitor but DH was eying up his cousin's video monitor. LOL
I didn't think about having to move the glider out because of pinched finger candreco. We're considering converting an upholstered chair with one of those swivel/rocker base so maybe that won't be as much of an issue. We'll have to see how far under the base stops. OMG your nursery is so cute! The wall art and the boat cradle are so perfect for a nursery.
downtoearth I really like that soft yellow with the wood. I don't always thing those two go together (thinking the yellow might make the wood look more yellow in turn) but that looks really good. Do you have any pictures of the finished room? The ferris wheel art if really cute too. I have some similar prints saved on etsy I'm just not sure how well they will go with our existing wall color. I love the last inspiration picture. I have the cherry Jenny Lind crib saved in case we can't find anything decent on CL.
nursecramer I think if we have a mobile we'll put it over the changing table as well just because the dresser will be more tucked away in the corner. All the furniture is going to be low so I want a mix of art, mobile, curtains, etc. to fill the vertical space. Off to comment on your stunning nursery inspiration board...
mrs.jacinthe I love that crib as well. It's such a fun mix of wood and white. It's kind of modern looking for our house though and we're leaning toward a CL/hand me down crib just because it's not a long term piece like the dresser or rug. I still really like it though.
Eek thank you everyone for all of the advice! This is getting really real and exciting.
