Best credit card for foreign transactions?

Anyone have a rec for a no foreign transaction fee CC? Also any experience on using Amex overseas, Asia especially? I think my Amex might not have foreign transaction fees but I'm afraid a lot of places won't accept it so I'm thinking of getting another card.

This is what we use too, and never have an issue wherever we travel. When I lived in London for 3 years I used my Chase BA card, daily, and there were no issues with that either. I find Amex is not always accepted everywhere so I would get a non-Amex card as well. I don't think any of the Chase cards charge foreign transaction fees, but the Sapphire preferred has chip and gets you awesome benefits.

It's a preferred visa. I haven't run into a place that accepts credit cards and won't take this one.

We got a Capital One Visa.  We get 1.5% cash back and there are no foreign transaction fees.

We use the Chase Marriott Rewards Visa. Ours has no foreign transaction fees but someone (possibly on here) told me that theirs did. I don't know what the deal is with that.

I have a Capital One Visa same as gtkim. It has no fees. I also got an email from Amex telling me my Delta Gold card will have no fees starting May 1st. I'm not sure if it is the same with any other of their cards.

I try to take a Visa and an Amex with me when I travel. Sometimes one or the other doesn't work.

Our Capital One has no foreign fees(I don't know which version it is, I know they changed the programs after we got it - our rewards structure is different than the current ones)

DH flies Star Alliance for work stuff - so he got the United branded Chase card - it has no foreign transaction fees. Putting all of our spending (includes his work travel) on it waives the dollar amount needed for flyer status once you hit $25k in a year on the card.


*The dollar amount spent on United without some of the taxes - his long flights for work are on South African so they don't count for the $$ part, just the mileage part.

I use a Capital One Venture card (Visa). No foreign fees, great customer service.

We have a Sapphire preferred with a chip and use it all the time. We actually don't have a HK based credit card yet, just a bank card and the Sapphire. The only times I've had a problem using it was at vending machine that took credit cards in the US, and while I REALLY wanted the Diet Coke I didn't have change for, it was hardly an emergency.

Is that card chipped? I have a barclay card too, I've been traveling to the UK and noticed they use a lot of chip readers over there. I'd like to get a card that'll work easier over there before my next trip in June.

Chase Sapphire is a chip card. The issue is that everything in the UK is chip and pin, and the US cards with chip are not chip and pin, so while the card readers in the UK can read the chip card they still require a signature. I think the USAA has a card that is chip and pin.

Sadly, not true. I've been booking hotels for an international trip on my Chase Freedom card and have been getting hit with foreign transaction fees.

I do have a Capital One debit card. Is this fee-free like their credit cards are? We're planning on using it for atm withdrawals then spending mainly from cash.

That is why I said I didn't think, obviously I was wrong. But, for future reference - the Chase Sapphire Preferred, the BA Chase, the SW Chase, the Chase Marriott Rewards, Chase United MileagePlus, Chase InkPlus and InkBold, they are all foreign transaction fee free.

I think by 2015 they will start rolling them out here. But unfortunately getting one her is almost impossible. We travel to the UK often so I know how frustrating it is.
