WTF OBGYN! He judged me for requesting a full STD panel, including HIV and the Heps, because "You had a baby 11 months ago, and you're requesting an STD test?" Yes, sir! My sexual health is quite important and I want to make sure I don't have anything to share later!! Also, I regularly get tattoos and HIV and the Heps are good tests to get done for that... seriously!
When I had a physical last month my primary doctor said it is now a recommendation of the CDC to run an HIV test on all patients between the ages of 25-65 as part of the blood panel. He said this is pretty new and they are pushing for primary docs and ob/gyn's to offer/suggest their patients are tested. He did say they don't normally test for Hep unless there is some indication by elevated enzymes or some other symptom. If your ob gave you a hard time or didn't do the test, maybe try your primary doctor.
