I'm post whoring it up while R is asleep on me and V is with the nanny.
I have a Nikon D3200 and then I have this Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S NIKKOR FX additional lens, which I love, but since it's fixed and so close up it's hard to use for all occasions.
I want a good "every day" lens.
Is this one okay? What do we think about this Tamron brand? I'm not really a great photographer so I'm trying to spend as little as possible. My MIL wants to get me something nice for my 30th birthday so I might ask for money towards a lens.
If you want a zoom maybe rent the 18-105mm? I think you will like the 35 to tote around for every day, though. The 1.8 aperture gives you pretty bokeh, if you want.
yum I want the 35 mm for mine, I def prefer primes. I want to upgrade to a full frame body first though. Neither of those options are happening anytime soon. My next camera related purchase on the list is a Samsung NX300 so I can have a nice P&S to just keep in my purse.
I am currently borrowing a 35mm from a friend. I like it but I love to zoom and not move around for close ups (sheer laziness at it's finest). But I do like how the pictures are looking.
ETA - I am not a photographer person by any means, just trying to get into taking better pics and laying off phone pics.
I am a Canon girl so I am not as familiar w/ Nikon's or Tamron's Nikon lenses but this looks like a solid lens - which camera do you have? Just wondering if it's full frame or not. If it has a cropped sensor, I would go for a wider lens.
I agree with devotchka I'm also a canon girl... But if you are crop sensor then the 50mm is going to be a tighter frame for you... and you will want more of a 28 or 35mm if you want a fixed lens.. I shoot primarily prime lenses... I have the 35, 50, 85, 100, and 135 :/... (I've got a shopping problem) But I'm also on a full frame camera... I havent used Tamron myself but have heard good things.. I have however used Sigma's 24-70 for canon and that was a good little lens.. but now I have the canon version and rarely use it...
Trudy, with the Nikon lenses, the " DX" lenses are made for your cropped sensor camera and the 35mm 1.8 DX would be a true 35mm on your body. The " FX" lenses are for full frame bodies. They will work on cropped sensor Nikons, but you will get a 1.5 crop factor. I don't think Tamron has the DX versions, but they might!

Thanks! I am so clueless.
It's very confusing. It used to make my brain hurt. Then you throw in the AF, AF-S and G and it is enough to make you pull hair out.
