I know you've all been holding your breath for this update... lol
I went to the dr today at 10. They did an internal exam, decided I had a cyst, and sent me to the ultrasound room. They did an ultrasound and determined that the cyst was LARGE, and also that my mirena had moved, and was not preventing pregnancy any longer. I freaked out and cried while peeing in a cup so they could do a pregnancy test, b/c I was so scared that it would come back positive, and I would end up with ANOTHER surprise pregnancy, which would be terrible timing, along with the fact that, ya know, it would be nice to have the chance to actually DECIDE to have a baby, and not just end up pregnant. The test was negative (thank God). So they took my mirena out, and put me on pelvic rest (no sex) for 5 weeks, b/c they said that the cyst was so large that intercourse could cause my ovary to flip, cutting off the blood supply, and resulting in emergency surgery.
So now I'm home, with birth control pills, no mirena, no pregnancy, and a giant cyst.
Going back to the doctor at the end of may for another ultrasound where they will see if the cyst is shrinking at all.
The ultra sound tech said that she first thought the cyst was my bladder, that's how large it is.
She made me go pee, and when I came back, she was like "oh, that's strange, your bladder still appears full" and then she looked again for a few more seconds, and said "Oh, that's the cyst... that's LARGE. that explains why you're in so much pain!"
I've dealt with two large cysts (15 - 15.5 cm) on my right ovary (endometriomas) before. The last one was removed along with my right ovary while I was 16 weeks pregnant. The recovery was horrid so I am super glad for you that you are not pregnant. My first surgery was endoscopic and I was back in class a couple weeks later. Totally sucks but it's great that you found out before a surprise pregnancy and before ovarian torsion occurred.
I'm really sort of glad that this happened and that i had to have an ultra sound so that they found out that the mirena wasn't where it was supposed to be/ wasn't preventing pregnancy, b/c the strings were still accessible and they couldn't have known that it wasn't in the right spot with out the ultrasound.

so at least there's a silver lining.
So, do they think that the size of the cyst moved the IUD? This is so scary.

they didn't say that, so I don't think they believe that's why it moved... maybe just a weird coincidence. they did say that if the cyst has shrunk down, they can put in another IUD when I come in next month, but I don't know what to do... i don't like that it moved, and wasn't working, and no one had any idea. that scares the shit out of me.
this sucks. I'm having cramping now, probably from getting the mirena out. and just BLAH. I want to lay around, and just relax, but that's not happening today... im a sad panda.
