I was planning to make Matilda a Cake Saturday for her birthday. We aren't having a party though so there will be just four adults and my H is on a diet and probably would rather not eat cake.
So making a whole cake for 3 adults and two toddlers seems silly. There will be a ton of leftover cake and I'd rather not have all that cake either taunting me or being thrown out.
is a 6 inch cake too small? Can I just half a regular recipe and bake it in a single six inch pan then cut that in half horizontally to make it a mini layer cake? (I only have one 6 inch pan and don't want to buy more. It's deep though)
I have no idea about the 6" pan, but we did cupcakes for G's birthday. She was given a whole one (though she only actually licked the frosting off the top). It helped me that they were apportioned into "serving sizes" so I didn't eat a giant piece then go back for seconds. Instead I had a cupcake then went back for a second one...at least I stopped after 2?
I made 4 layers of cake but only used 3. I wanted a 3 layer cake and the way they bake up in my oven, it's hard to split them. I still have the other layer wrapped up and frozen in my freezer. Maybe I'll break it out for Mother's Day and use it as my third layer.
