I'm not satisfied with my family doctor being Julian's doctor. I want to get a Pedi for Julian and the new baby, but I was wondering how I'd go about that. My doctor just isn't really cutting it with Julian and I want someone who specializes in kids. Do I have to let my doctor know I'm switching. How do I get a pedi, do I have to fill out a form, because I think I had to for my GP. I really don't want to tell the doctor I'm leaving him because he's still my doctor...and I feel bad.
I know Im not either one of them, but all I would have to do is find a pedi, call them, ask if they are accepting new patients and if they are... new pedi! Hopefully it is that easy in Ontario!

That's why I asked them because they're the closest moms to me. Thanks, I hope I can find one near by, do you think I'll need to like request Julian's files to be sent over. Or can I just start new? I should take his vaxx card right?
Can't help you on the forms but if your doctor has a problem because you want a Pedi, tell him to lay an egg. I don't take my kids to my family practice and they know that. They also know that they don't specialize in children's medicine and we have the right to choose any doctor we want. Good luck.

How it works here is that once you find one you like, the new practice should request his files and they should totally take his vaxx card.

When you get a new Pedi, they should have a release of records form that you will sign for continuity of care.
I think what smudgee is saying is correct. Just find a new one who is accepting and you're good to go. I would probably have them send the records over.
If you're nervous about telling your GP, is there some kind of reason you could use for why you would want a pedi? Like more specialized pedi issues (weight issues, reaching milestones, vaccination schedule).
You could always say you want a pedi for the second because of whatever reason and that it's then easier to have them both at the same office.
I wish we had more choice down here. We are so underserviced that I'm lucky we have a pedi.

For instance, he doesn't look in Julian's ears every time I visit unless I ask, a lot of my questions are answered with really vague blanket answers. He just doesn't seem to know what he's doing with Julian. He also mis diagnosed him with thrush once and put him on antibiotics for nothing.idk I want a doctor who just knows everything about kids.

Call Heath Care Connect. It's an Ontario run program. It helps connect people with doctors and NPs. They will be able to help you or at least point you in the right dkrection. www.health.gov.on.ca/en/ms/healthcareconnect/public/ You can also access them via your local CCAC your (area code)-310-CCAC
I had the same issue with X. At first I brought him to my GP. She is great with me and agreed to take on X so I was happy. It's really hard to find a doctor here and most families are stuck going to walk in clinics. Anyway, she wasn't the best with X. He had blood in his poop and she was less than helpful. Told me to "wait it out". Whenever I asked her a pedi related question she would go into her office and I would hear her call someone and ask them my question. I didn't have confidence bringing X there. She was great with seniors and adults but not kids.
I had a hard time finding a pedi. No one was accepting new patients. My uncle brougt his 2 kids to a pedi so I had him ask but she said no. X kept getting worse (undiagnosed MSPI) so my uncle called her back and she agreed to take him on. I just faxed a form to my GP giving her permission to fax X's chart to the new pedi.
I'm sorry you are dealing with this. As a nurse in Ontario I know how bad the system can suck. It's even worse in Quebec. Good luck to you and Juju!

I didn't let my doctor know in advance but she obviously found out when she got my request to forward X's chart. I saw her soon after for my appointment and just told her that I wanted an actually pedi for X and someone closer to home (pedi is in Quebec and my doctor is in Ontario). She was totally fine with it and is still my doctor.

Sorry I am so late to this!
For some reason I thought that you'd be out of luck getting an actual pedi unless your kid has an issue. I might be completely off base though. I feel like someone told me once that because pedis are in relatively short supply, you are expected to see your GP as pedis need to reserve space for children with diagnosed issues. Maybe I was given the wrong information. The joys of universal health care!
I know here that most medical offices will charge you to give you copies of your chart/medical record but won't charge to send them to another physician or hospital. Just find a new doc and have them request your/ J's records.
