Let's say your office has no water service

And you have to pee really bad. Your choices are:

-Drive somewhere and use their bathroom: closest place is downtown area and they are currently filming a TV show, so parking is an issue

-Use the restroom in your office: there's 1 toilet and two employees have already gone

-Go in a disposable cup in your office

Well this happened to me once at work, but luckily I was working downtown and next to a Whole Foods. I went to Whole Foods to pee.

Use the office bathroom. Ideal, no, but the hell I am dealing with driving and a difficult parking situation just to pee, and the cup thing...no. Using the office bathroom is no worse than using a port-a-potty at a concert.

I really think the only acceptable times for peeing in a disposable cup are at the doctor's office or if you think you might be pregnant.

Can you go home? Barring that, I guess the office toilet. I would not want to fight to find a parking space just to pee.

I am not above peeing in a cup in my office but I ended up going somewhere. Supposedly the city is doing something to the water line and it should come back on "at any time".

The washing hands thing is the only qualm I'd have about the whole thing, but just try not to touch anything/use a paper towel to close and open the door. I mean, trying to pee in a cup seems like it would be a lot messier than just peeing in the non-flushing toilet. You don't have to actually TOUCH pee if you sit, pee, and then wipe with a lot of toilet paper.

Side note: the water at our summer cabin was temperamental, to say the least, growing up. We had water, but it was run up from the lake, so we couldn't drink it. We had an "if it's yellow let it mellow" policy, which pretty much everyone else on the lake shore had as well. Okay, sure, it's basically your other family members, but none of us died from peeing on other pee.

The first time this happened at work, they sent us home for the day.

The most recent time, they did nothing but promise it would be back "soon." I went to a nearby hotel. It was early morning. They were still serving breakfast. I may or may not have grabbed a waffle to keep up my "I'm a guest here" rouse.

If there's no place to easily walk to (restaurant, neighboring office, etc) then I would ask to go home.

This happened here last week. They closed the building due to inadequate sanitation and sent people to other buildings it home to work.

The only time the office building I'm assigned to closed in the last decade or so was when there was no running water due to a hurricane taking the water treatment plant offline. It may depend on the local laws, but in that county, it *was* illegal for my company to not close and send people home. So said the police officers that showed up and escorted us out of the building.


I vote pee at work ('cause traffic while having to pee sucks a lot), tell the powers that be to call you when there is running water again, and head home.

My first preference would be to go home, but if you can't do that go use a bathroom offsite. If the nearest spot is impractical because of the movie shooting, then go somewhere farther away. They can't complain about you taking a lot of time when they won't supply you with a working restroom.

Peeing on someone else's pee is not only disgusting, it will lead to a clogged toilet. I would work from home or choose the drive option and take my sweet time.
