I want to know what crazy person spent 100k on this Chicken Coop from Neiman Marcus -- Chickens poop everywhere and it's so disgusting to clean. Think of how many eggs you could have, even filled with gold for 100k!

My IL's tried doing the chicken thing. They live in FL and have a pond that attracts alligators. The chickens didn't last long. They had to call the wildlife dept to have the alligator removed. He thought he could walk up to the coop like he owned that bitch.
My DD was devastated when Black Beauty, Ariel, Jasmine, Minnie, and Belle were missing.
Having chickens doesn't appeal to me, but I am not a huge egg fan and I definitely couldn't raise chickens to eat. DD is in an agriculture class at school and they brought in baby ducks. She begged me to let her bring one home.
My friend's neighbor tried to keep chickens in their poorly fenced in, 1/4 acre, suburban lot with no chicken coop. The chickens kept getting loose and roaming the neighborhood.
I don't think I could keep chickens. I would imagine their little chicken homes smell nasty and I would have to clean it. I used to have a fresh egg hook up at my old job, but now I have to settle for store bought eggs.
I asked this months ago and got a lot of indignant responses. Growing up in the country where chickens were kept by necessity definitely cured me of any desire to install a hen house. Those little fuckers peck.
I don't hate birds. I find a lot of them quite charming, but:
- They are NOT ALLOWED to roost on my home. If you don't remember my bird mite invasion of summer 2012 story, consider yourself lucky. Wild birds are pest-ridden.
I like eggs. I've had both fresh eggs and store-bought, and honestly can't really tell the difference between them.
I don't get the chicken thing either. It seems like an enormous amount of time and resources for very little payoff.
Thank you. A lot of these responses make it seem like farm fresh taste like nectar from the gods. They're still eggs, people. I like them, but they're eggs.
I'm late to this party, but people use them as companion animals around here. You can litter box train them, so I'm told.
I didn't realize birds freaked people out
lol I HATE birds. They are filthy disgusting creatures. Rats with wings.
eb777888 knows my fear of birds well. Every time we go to the playground I'm always ducking and gasping when birds flutter around us. lol
I'm passing this unfortunate fear on to my daughter. She already says "Birds are GROSS mama" lol
Aww, man. Well, I'm sorry birds freak you guys out like that! We have aggressive birds and bird mite carriers living around here, so I can understand why people would be afraid of them.
When you think about them, they are rather freaky looking, in a way.
Just clicked on this because it is a flaming post. I had no idea chickens were so controversial!
My husband and I both grew up on farms, but are now living in suburbia, with backyard chickens. We have them because we like them as pets, and our kids adore them. My 2 year old carries them around like dolls.
Other than being yolk-ier than store bought eggs, I honestly don't taste a difference. It's definitely not particularly cost-effective. The eggs are just a nice benefit.
We have a pretty big fenced in run for them, so they don't / cant wander to other yards.
I don't know, I just don't see it as all that different from any other pet. We have them because we like them.
