DH is telling his cousin tonight that we are pregnant. While I was going through my last set of surgery shit she got breast cancer. My confession is that I really hope this gives her the push she needs to start her pregnancy trying. She is scared. But we always talked about having kids together.
I confess that I've gotten rather stupid lately. Last night I told Mr. Smock that I was worried that I wouldn't know when I was in labor and the baby would just fall out. He was like, "uh, I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about that."
I confess that I just read Loira's post on the other GP board and I had to excuse myself because I was crying so hard. I don't want to tag her to call her over here, but my heart is breaking for her.

I confess that I know next to nothing about maternity clothes and I have no idea where to start, what to look for, where to look, or anything. I feel so lost.
We got a ticket in the mail from one of those red light cameras from a trip to his family's house over Easter. We barely ran it and H thinks he was driving when it happened and was really mad at himself when the ticket showed up.
What he doesn't remember is that I was actually driving since he'd been drinking. I drive like a grandma and never ever get close to running red lights, and distinctly remember h telling me not stop at this light since we were practically through it. I'm pretty sure he won't remember this so I've kept my mouth shut. :X

For me, I have been able to mix and match maternity and non-maternity clothes so far. I did buy maternity work pants around 10 or 11 weeks because I was so bloated that my work pants no longer fit. I've bought most of my pieces from Old Navy and Gap and two pair of pants from Jcrew. I've also always waited for a sale because I didn't want to spend too much on clothes I would wear for these 6-8 months.

bluelikejazz Don't worry. Start with a piece or two that you like the look of. Evaluate, return or keep, rinse and repeat.
If you have someplace nearby like a Motherhood, it helped me to try on a few things, but honestly, I had to do most of mine online, and I made a LOT of returns to Kohls, Old Navy, and Target.
My confession is that I was checking my registries to cancel out some things I bought last night, and some other stuff has been bought! And not by me, lol! I don't know if my work is doing a shower (I'm 33 weeks and no word that I've heard) which is fine, I've only been here for five months, but still bums me out a little. Friends of H's family (well, and us, too, of course) are doing an absentee shower - I *think*. Following through on plans is not their forte, so I'm not sure. And that's okay, too. But it's neat to see that someone somewhere is thinking about us .

Well, in the What category, you have a couple of things to think about. For bottoms, your options are pretty much demi (sit below your bump and sort of stretch out/down as you grow) or full panel (glorious stretchy piece of fabric that is sort of like less-constricting stockings or tights, attached to just-below where your normal pant/skirt waistband would be). This is mostly a matter of preference. Some people find the full panel to be too constricting, or get a rash on the belly. Some people, especially as they get larger, find the demi panel to be sort of "cutting." It's probably obvious by my description, but I prefer full panel.
For tops, there are sort of 2 categories too, but they're not going to be necessarily labeled like bottoms typically are. There's the snug-fit variety that says "hey-o! I'm prego!" -- these are typically very stretchy and/or side-rouched to accomodate your bump as it grows. Then there are the loose-fit variety that kind of drape OVER your bump, either like an empire waist and then a flare-out, or just all-over loose fit. I prefer the snug fit tops, which is hugely surprising to me as someone who spends their entire life trying to find blouson bottom-banded tops in normal life. lol. I think it's because the flowier ones seem to add more volume to the hip area too (maybe only in my head?), which I'm just not cool with. heh.
AND the awesome thing about full panel pants that probably adds to my being ok with snugger fit in tops is that no waistband at the hip area means no muffintop! WOO! haha
As for Where, just know that depending on your city, you may not find much maternity selection even at stores that carry maternity. So Old Navy, Gap, Kohls, Target.. all have maternity lines, but for me locally, only Target has ANY in-store selection, and it's TINY. Like, you can choose whether you want solid or stripe and T-shirt or tank, and that's about it. So at very least, call your local store before you show up and find zilch.
Another one. If I could I would sabotage the road work going on behind my house. They are doing it at night. 10pm-5am. OMG. I can't tell if I am pregnant tired or just plain tired. I hate closing windows when it's nice, but I also need some semblance of sleep at night!

Thanks aqualuv, chickadee77 and FastHands! I think I will spend some time online this weekend and order some stuff with the intent of returning what I don't like.
Any recs for a good swimsuit? I'm not comfortable in a bikini, but my tankini from last year is too small already, and my parent's pool is already open

I actually had got my suit at the little motherhood maternity section in buy buy baby. I figured it would be a traumatic experience, but it was actually the easiest bathing suit shopping trip I've had in ages. It's a tankini and pretty flattering.
Also, I've been rocking an old bikini at the lake that still fits. I never thought that'd be something I'd do, but it works!

Me too, blushing I've been so upset. I feel so desperate to help her, but deep down I know there's nothing we can do. I've been speaking to her via email and she's so strong and courageous; I admire her so much.

Lands end had some super cute tankinis that I think would work great for maternity too.

I found this blog post helpful in getting started. When are you due? I have a shit ton of jersey dresses because my job is casual. They are from Old Navy, Target, Gap, and a few from a local upscale maternity boutique. I have two pairs of jeans, but I really only wear one because the other one won't stay up. (The full-panel jeans are working much better for me than the under-belly jeans.) Two pairs of shorts, 10-15 tops, a couple of skirts, and a swimsuit.

I got a great tankini from Saraphine--it is very forgiving with extra fabric that doesn't seem to be extra until you need to spread it out over something.

Oh man, I loved Seraphine's swimsuits. Sadly, they don't accommodate my 34Gs. (wilted)

Thanks for the blog post! I'm due end of November. I bought 2 pairs of pants at goodwill in a size up, and they fit, but are my only pants right now!

Oh that's kind of a tough time because there will be a lot of weather change in your third trimester. I may have gotten lucky, maternity clothes-wise, because my entire third trimester is in the summer.
I have been really happy with these jeans from Old Navy.

Oh my goodness, I had no idea she got bad results. I feel awful for the results, and that she has had to make such a difficult decision. Thinking good thoughts and prayers for her.

I know I'm trying to think about that and not go overboard now with spring/summer clothes. I'll need some stuff, but I'm going to need warmer/wintery clothes in third tri. Thanks for the jeans link. I think I found an old navy with a pretty good maternity section close to home - I'm going to try stuff on this weekend
