What is your favorite city in Europe to visit and why? We've been to a bunch of different cities throughout Europe but are always looking for new ideas, or even would consider going back somewhere we've already visited!
For me it depends a lot on what I'm looking for (relaxation, food, shopping, art, performances, etc).
If I had to choose a single city, I guess I'd pick Istanbul, because while it might not place first on my list for any single category, it's great as an all-around choice. The food is fantastic, there's an amazing amount of history, plenty of nice places just to walk around, people are friendly, it's affordable, and Turkish baths aren't bad when I want some spa time.
I've been to Paris three times and it's gotten better every time. I think that's because as we've checked off more of the big sights we just relax and enjoy the city.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
ETA: Also London. Those are the two places I happily revist over and over. I've been to London about a dozen times and haven't come close to scratching the surface of everything there is to see and do there.
Amsterdam. It was so quaint, smaller than I expected and I loved the bike culture. The first morning we arrived at like 7am, we stood on a corner and watched everyone bike to work and school and the dinging of the bike bells was just so entrancing. It was almost peaceful. Can't wait to go back.
Such a hard question to answer!! Cities I would always, always go back to are Prague, Florence and Lisbon. I really loved Stockholm and Rome. And obviously I love Edinburgh!

I've only ever been to Ireland, that said Galway is my favorite city there. Laid-back college town on the beautiful western coast - great seafood, hiking, exploring, friendly people and live music. Just a chill, scenic city.

My favorite city in Europe so far is Lisbon. I see lots of Prague and Barcelona responses (for cities I have yet to visit). I think either one of them will have to be where we spend our long weekend away.

My favorites are probably Edinburgh, Amsterdam, and London as far as places I'd return to again and again. I've only been to Rome and Barcelona once but would love to and plan to go back. I'd move to Zurich in a heartbeat, but as for a place to visit - there are probably better options. For smaller towns I really like Colmar, France and Erfurt, Germany.
