I both hate and love that we don't have one here. It's so delicious but I hate that spending money there goes towards something so hateful. My dad's cousin owns a CFA and although his family seems to be conservative, I've never seen them as hateful or bigoted, so it's not everyone. I'm fine with the company keeping their Christian values, but I'd really love to see them spend those profits on something more productive rather than something like this. Maybe caring for the homeless or something.

All I have to add to this, given that I have never eaten at, seen, or know where the nearest CFA is, is that when I went to a NCA cheerleading camp forever ago, they had sponsors and what the sponsors got was the leaders teaching all the girls a cheer with all the sponsor names in it. CFA was one of those sponsors on year. Of course everyone at the camp was like WTF is CFA? This is Maine, we don't have that. But the bigger point is children being apparently indoctrinated in hate at CHEER camp.
Makes me wonder about the general values of the NCA and how those values relate to CFA and the expectation that if you want to make the public school varsity squad you will attend the "optional" summer camp.
Emily, I'm sure that's photoshopped, as accurate as it may be.
Oh, I know it is. I didn't mean to imply I thought it was a real billboard. But that image pops into my head every time I pass by CFA, and it's really been what has made stop going. I don't want my dollars going to support that.
I boycotted CFA and then starting around week 20 in my pregnancy I broke down bc I just wanted a damn milkshake. But now I think I can't use the pregnancy as an excuse anymore.......their milkshakes are so good.... So back to boycotting it is....

Did I ever tell you about when my gay sister worked at CFA? She had been there for a couple of years & was an assistant manager/in management training (something like that) when they found out that she was gay. Her bosses called her into a meeting one day and told her all about how the gay lifestyle was a sin and that she was going to hell if she didn't repent, then gave her a bunch of pamphlets that were basically about praying away the gay. She quit soon after. I tried so hard to convince her to sue them but she refused. The sad thing is that she actually really liked working there & said the company was great to work for up until that point.

So no, it's not just one guy.
Wow.
We just got one by my office in a NW suburb of Chicago, but I have never eaten there. Now I have a valid reason to not eat there. That's disgusting.
I'm in the camp of appreciating their honesty, but not agreeing with it. I have a gay friend who now refuses to go to CFA and I repect that. But he still talks about how much he misses it.

I don't agree with their corporate policies in regards to who they give money to, at all. And this is a horrible story. But this is not the way it is across the board. I am very good friends with an owner/operator of a store and am friends with another, and this is not the way they operate at all. These are beer loving, non religious people with gay friends and employees. Pretty much everything CFA is against. It is possible for an owner/operator to not share these beliefs and have a store (they just can't preach non religious views or drink at the store, which is probably a given). They have no issue with employing gay people, divorced people, single moms, etc.

I know a Hobby Lobby store like that as well. Attitudes tend to depend on the location, as with most chain stores.
this is my story of boycotting chick fil a. i had never spent a dollar of my own at chick fil a. they cater a lot of our lunches, so I have in the past eaten the already purchased sandwich. about 6 months ago, NPH was on the twitter and tweeted how excited he was to go to the new CFA that just opened in LA or whatever. and I was like, WTF NPH? Why am I suffering from a lack of chickn minis while you are sucking down the hate chicken with your hot husband and adorable twins? and then i ate some chickn minis.
Yes, because mocking transubstantiation is so less hateful!!
omg, piss off.
Yeah, this has been annoying me too. 2V, I respect your right to believe whatever you like, but there is no way I will respect alchemy. Sorry. And obviously this was just messing about.

Yes, obviously....my point. I don't make a point of using your beliefs (or non-beliefs as the case may be) as the butt of jokes. I'm not telling you not to, but I will speak up when I feel it is warranted.

Thats fine - but then you make a point of using your beliefs to justify yourself as well. No difference. Except that I am dicking about, and you actually mean it. So yeah. Shall we hug it out? (})

OK, 2V, are you really comparing someone actively spending money to campaign against equal rights for humans to someone making a joke about your belief system? You think that those are the same?
LOL..yet another poster not getting what I'm saying. |-)
NOT the same; however, if your'e going to b!tch about how hateful a group of people are you might want to refrain from using another group of people's deeply held beliefs as the butt of a joke. Because at worst it doesn't help your POV; at best, it makes you look like an ass.

WTH are you talking about?
I was just saying that okay, you don't like it when I make jokes about religion. I understand. But my jokes are simply that. I find irreverence funny.
However, you use your belief in god to express your point of view as often as I use my lack of belief in god to express mine. I do it with jokes or sarcasm, you do it with a serious intent.
The only difference is, mine is a joke, so it doesn't matter.

You know Reeve, I normally don't mind your joking around as I have chuckled at some of your jokes. I have a sense of humor. For some reason (maybe more than one reason) this time it was different.

I dont know that there needs to be a hate olympics here. Hating on people for their sexual orientation isnt cool and hating on people for their religion isnt cool. It doesnt really matter if you think fudge packing is gross or you'd sooner believe in the FSM, its hurtful to people. Reeve may have been joking but many make clear their disdain for those with devout religious beliefs and making it known that you think less of someone for either reason isnt exactly compassionate. As far as I can tell, 2V is not supporting the political position of opposing gay rights.
ehh sometimes you let it slide, sometimes you feel like duking it out. We are a board that does offend offs. Most of us come here to be frank about our positions. Am I surprised that making fun of a ritual is going to offend a devout Catholic? Not at all. I dont want to start tip toeing around everything but once you get to know regs, you also know what would push their buttons. I dont know that there's any scale of what's acceptable to get butt hurt over but I do think she made a valid point.

We're not getting what you're saying, because that's not what you said.
In a conversation talking about people being hateful towards other people and trying to deprive them of equality someone made a joke.
You said: Yes, because mocking transubstantiation is so less hateful!!
You made the comparison by making some sarcastic comparison of hatefulness on your hateful scale.
You did not say, "Hey, make your point without joking about something that is important to others, otherwise it takes away from your point and makes you look like an ass."
I don't really care one way or the other, but it sounded like you were making a comparison and that's not cool.
OK, let me (try to) make this absolutely clear. Hating the gays (which is the title of this thread) is not cool (like chichimi said I'm not arguing with most of what was said in this thread). However, mocking another's religion is not cool....and comes off as hateful. They are both hateful. Hence, my sarcastic comment that the latter is soooo less hateful than the other. I'm not saying they are the same, but I'm also not buying that it's not a hateful thing to say and that I should just be okay with it because ....atheists deem it funny. The fact of the matter is it was considered "game" because it mocked Christians in this case Catholic Christians. Lie I said to Reeve, I can laugh at a lot of jokes on here, but when you start messing with the holiest part of my faith I'm going to balk at it. Don't like it? Oh well.
