We decided to run a little mini-challenge for the group this month to see how it goes.  No prizes, just a bit of fun to see if we can read different things or make our planned reading a bit more fun/interesting.  Information on the taste is here:  June Book Club Mini-Challenge

The author is Anchee Min.  In looking up the author I found out that the book I am reading is 2/2.  No wonder there was no background on the empress.  I was wondering why the book started where it did.

I would suggest reading the 1st one. I loved it while the second was good it didn't live up to the first.
