That happens to me sometimes, I don't record it as CD1 until I have continuous bleeding and can soak a tampon. What you're describing doesn't sound like CD1 just yet.
I generally spot a couple of days before my actual period. This usually consists of spotting brown blood and not red. It took me a while to figure out that this wasn't actually my period. It can get really confusing sometimes. I don't count it as CD1 until I have a continuos flow of red.
I usually spot for anywhere between 1-2 days before my period. I've been charting for 14 months now (we used it TTA for awhile before TTC) and what you experience I would call and record as spotting.
As far as I'm concerned, if it's not getting on your underwear and not increasing it's spotting. When I notice what you experience I use a panty liner and go to the bathroom more frequently before actually using my diva cup (or in your case a tampon).
