OMG.
Sooooooo comfy. I have a teeny blister that's not even really painful where the button on the ankle strap hits. I think it's just going to take some getting used to.
But the soles. OMG the soles. Why can't all shoe soles be like this? My old lady feet are rejoicing like never before.
Yes, I'm going to buy the shoes to wear with jeans in the fall.
Those Germans really know a thing or two about footwear.
I need an ankle/heel strap because of my history of forefoot injury. These are a little more stylish than the classic Milano, but I am tempted to get Milanos for the weekends. (The Balis are good for commuting, and I probably SHOULD change into my black flats, but eh, it's our Friday!)
Welcome to the ugly, comfortable shoe club. ::: parks my Danskos::::
Oh, I'm already firmly in it. ::glances at the ugly German flats in my file cabinet::
I have the Dansko professionals and wear them with pants. But I don't have the right thickness of socks. Mine are all either too thick and make the shoes too tight or too thin and make them rub uncomfortably on the balls of my feet.
Did you get them online or in the store? I have some Keen flip flops I like, but my ankle can't handle walking in them all day. We are going to Disney for a week and I need better options. I hate sneakers.
I suspect I should go to the store and try some on.

I tried them on in a Birkenstock store, and the button at the ankle strap fell off. That was apparently the only pair in any store in the whole area. Not a single other pair in a Birkenstock or Comfort One. So I ordered them on Amazon. I think they are a less common style.
I wish I could do the Gizehs or something similar. I suspect they wouldn't be as bad as other flip flops, but if I'm being really honest with myself, I know I shouldn't.

I'm glad they worked out for you. I've gotten weird little blisters like that from new shoes and I feel like that area of skin just needs to get used to the strap being there.

What socks do you wear with them?
I wear Smartwool socks with my Danskos, usually mid-weight.
Actually, 90% of my socks are Smartwool so I wear them whenever I'm wearing socks. They don't wear down like cotton so they are much less likely to cause blisters.
ETA - and I'm glad you like the Birks! Having comfortable feet is so nice.
I'm glad they work for you! But please don't get the Milanos. I just looked them up, and they are truly awful.
DON'T EVEN CARE! That's how happy my feet are.
I think they'd probably go well with my usual weekend uniform of a casual skirt and a dinosaur t-shirt.
But I'll probably wait until next summer to get them. One $130 pair of sandlas per season seems like enough.
I like your attitude. There was a thread on CEP yesterday about posters promoting women wearing what we want and disregarding societal judgment. I was going to repost over here the next time MM had a shoe debate but now I'm on my phone and too lazy.
By the way, Sierra trading post often has Birks at good discounts, and Amazon sometimes does, too.

Not that I'm condoning getting them , but if/when you do, you can save a bit if you buy them on Shoebuy.com (which almost always has 20% off coupons, plus 6% back on ebates).

I condone wearing what you want, and I won't try to pretend that fashion is separate from societal judgment. I certainly wear things that aren't cute because they have other pluses.
But shoes that ugly hurt my heart, and I will continue to vote against ugly shoes when they are posted on MM! Doesn't mean they poster can't ignore that opinion and wear them anyway or that my judgment goes farther than the shoes themselves when I see someone out with hideous footwear.
birkenstocks are a thing now, right? the little kardashian was talking about them like 2 episodes ago.
People here keep saying that they are in, but that is the only way I know they are in.
I don't even know which one is the "little" Kardashian.
I'm pretty sure the WWE Network is the most-watched thing in our house.
Ha ha! I don't know either & the WWE network is on 90% of the time DH is home & watching TV....lol. Glad you liked your Birks! I loved mine in the 90s...I am still deciding which ones I'm gonna buy. I'm all about comfort these days.

Maybe Kourtney? IIRC, she is the petite one of the bunch.
I'm also DYING at "foot orgasms."
I've been thinking about getting a pair of Birkenstocks, but can't decide on which style. Which is the least visually offensive? It's really hard to pick based on that... But, yay comfort!!
I think the Gizehs are not only non-offensive but are considered cute by some people who have style (i.e., not me). Unfortunately for me, they don't have a heel strap. But if you don't have foot problems, they should be fine (and better for your feet than your average shitty flip flops, I'd think).

Gizehs are cute and look like flip flops but wear like a sandal-no flipping or flopping.

This is why I like the gizeh - it's a slide on but without the flip noise and feels more like a shoe.
No. The stench comes from the material in the footbed of the generic sandals. Birkenstocks don't stink because by use real cork and leather.
Also, Birkenstock lovers, I've seen them in discount sites lately, Ruelala and Zulily have had sales on them.
And don't forget to seal the cork periodically! My oldest pair is starting to get crumbly because I neglected them the first few years.
Please explain how one goes about doing this. Thanks!
I use Birkenstock Cork Life (harder to find), but I think any cork sealer will do (there's quite a few on Amazon). You apply it to the exposed cork to keep the moisture out. There's already and thin coat on there when you buy them, but it wears off.
