QOTD: inspired by @bandwife's reply to the Canada Day post... When you are away from your home country do you feel the 'need' to wear things that will clearly label you as your nationality? And how are national day celebrations different when you are away?
Happy 4th of July!! No plans today besides watching the France/Germany match this evening! This weekend i think we will be doing some shopping. I think we are going to buy one of those fancy irons that do the pressing and what-not. We are ridiculously excited about it
QOTD: Nope I don't feel any need to wear nationality specific clothing..Then again, i was wearing a Don't Mess With Texas shirt yesterday But I found that shirt at a shop in France and couldn't resist!!
I would have completely forgot about the 4th of July if you hadn't said something. I forgot my own wedding anniversary this week, so it isn't too surprising that I forgot the 4th
I posted and ran earlier (well, cycled to work in fact...)
No major plans for the weekend. Dh is away from today until Sunday so I won't get a lie in this weekend :-( And I need one! Dd2 is threatening to get chicken pox so I'm not going to call to some friends to see their 3mth old daughter. We might go to a classic/vintage car show on Sunday if the weather is good - dd1 loves it especially cos there are bouncy castles there!! I might go to a 40th bday party on Saturday night if my mum or dad can babysit.
QOTD: the couple of years I was away from home for St Patricks day I did make sure I wore a bit if green. And went out with a group of Irish friends. In fact, the year I was in Luxembourg was the best Patricks Day ever for me. Now at home we never do anything to celebrate and I don't wear anything green or particularly Irish

Maternity Leave did that to me too.... The days all rolled into one and I often didn't know the day of the week never mind the date!!
QOTD: As I wrote earlier, I do like to Canada it up when we're traveling. I actually don't like to do it much where we live because people assume we're tourists a lot anyways. That's a silly pet peeve of mine: we've lived here three years and a lot of locals we meet assume we're just visiting. Sigh. Expat life.
No major plans here. It is too hot to BBQ. And its Ramadan, so it seems a little insensitive to BBQ anyway.
In the Middle East I tend to avoid pointing out that I'm American. Most people here think I'm French before I start talking. After I start talking they can't figure out where I'm from.

We are BBQing anyway! We bought a canopy for the backyard so hoping tht helps so people can't see it! I also figure most people are cooking all day to prepare Iftar anyway.
So yes, we're celebrating by having friends over and having your typical American fare. I'm excited and hungry!!
I don't think I particularly try to point out that I'm American or wear things that identify me as such. It gets asked a ton here and most people assume I'm either American or British. It's also complicated when we travel and we hate explaining that we live in Doha and getting the same questions over and over, so when we are asked we say we're from the US, end of story!
As Brit mentioned, it's Ramadan so celebrating is definitely different! But we try to make it as normal as we can and just have fun. We'll have burgers and beer, and that's all that really matters!
Hi there, I've been mostly enjoying the weekend. I had a bad allergic reaction to a snow cone that I had yesterday so the recovery from that has been a lot of fun.
QOTD: I mostly try to blend where I go but then to sometimes opt to "seem more American". I rarely wear specifically American clothing and if I do, it is incidental. I wouldn't go out of my way to wear it. People generally don't think I'm from the US when I'm abroad unless I start speaking and really decide to make it apparent. Sometimes I will hang out with American friends and we might be a bit rowdy then but otherwise, no, I tend to try to fit in somewhat.
