I just started Kingbird Highway by Kenn Kaufman. We went to our city parade this morning (the joke is that if you aren't watching the parade, you have to be in the parade -- pretty much the entire town is there). Cookout and fireworks tonight with family.

In honor of independence day I'm reading the newest Outlander book all about smelly George Washington and his wooden teeth. No spoilers please, I'm only 1/3 through. But Jamie and Claire are teaming up to fight for independence, yah!

I'm reading The Palace Tiger, a Detective Joe Sandilands mystery. I really enjoy Detective Sandilands, and it's been far too long since I've had a good visit with him.
DH and met friends for dinner at an American-style diner to celebrate not only the 4th, but the friend's anniversary of his arrival in Australia, which his wife calls "end of independence day" for him. We had US-style burgers, curly fries, and onion rings washed down with Cherry Cokes, Dr. Peppers, and A&W Root Beers and Cream Sodas. It was great fun.
I'm working on The Goldfinch (65% done ... it's long!) and The Escape (Mary Balogh). I didn't do much yesterday, but did go drool over some furniture at my favorite store. I'm going to start working from home and want to get a new dining room table (where I'll be working). I can't really justify the cost, but I can drool. :-)
Also watched A Capital Fourth last night and mightily annoyed the cats by singing and whistling along with all the patriotic songs and marches. Disapproving glares came particularly from Samara (toes in my siggy).
I'm late in responding but I'm so enjoying the long weekend with less humid weather, which means I can read on the sunporch in the mornings with my coffee without dying of heat- yay! I'm reading Kindred, by Octavia Butler. It was published about 10 years ago and I never would have heard of it if not for my DH who, oddly enough is not a big fiction reader. He heard mention of it on a podcast he downloads. It's a combination of historical fiction and time travel. The main character is the ancestor of slaves and something is causing her to go back in time from her day (1976) to the 1800s South. I can't wait to finish it- hopefully today.

I read that for a class in college and really enjoyed it. It was actually first published in 1979.

I am reading The Interestings and hoping to finish soon so I can start the Diana Gabaldon book. We are stuck in parking lot traffic on the way home from Michigan and I really wish my book wasn't stuck in my suitcase in the back!
I'm rereading The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klaus. I loved this book back in high school. I'm also starting Whom The Gods Would Destroy by Brian Hodge.
I finished The 9th Girl by Tami Hoag last night. It was okay. Still working on I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Oh, and Don Quixote. If I ever finish that one I'm going to throw a party. Hehe
I had to work all weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun) so no celebrations or cookouts for me this year.

I read that my freshman year of college. Loved it!
