My husband and I almost always go to Ocean City, Maryland, in the summer, but we are trying to plan something new. Does anyone have any recommendations pro or con with Virginia Beach or Wrightsville Beach?
Thanks! We like walking on the boardwalk while we are on the beach. Generally, in Ocean City we walk the boardwalk for about an hour and a half in the morning, then in the evening again. In the heart of the day we like to lie on the beach.
I've never been to Wrigthsville Beach, but we've gone to Va. Beach for the half marathon the last couple of years. The boardwalk at Va. Beach has a little less going on than at Ocean City. I haven't been to Ocean City in 10 years, but I'd say Va. Beach is more family friendly.
I don't think Wrightsville has a boardwalk that I can recall, but we really liked it when we were there (this was a few years ago). It's less crowded than Ocean City and the beach is nice, the water is warmer. I remember the currents being really strong there but don't know if that was due to the weather that particular year or what.

Grew up 30 minutes from Ocean City and have been to Virginia Beach, but not Wrightsville. In my opinion, VA Beach is much nicer than Ocean City, especially in terms of beach cleaniness and quality.

I grew up near Ocean City, and lived near Wrightsville for a decade. Wrightsville beach is my favorite beach ever, probably because it's so different from Ocean City. The beach is clean, the water is crystal clear. There isn't a boardwalk, but there are some great local businesses (Tower 7, Kohl's frozen custard, Trolly Stop, breakfast at Causeway Cafe). Wilmington has lots to offer. If it's the boardwalk vibe you want, you may prefer Virginia Beach.
