Anyone know of a really good sports medicine doctor or clinic? Or PT clinic or therapist? Miracle worker of any kind? I would consider converting to any religion if necessary.

I had a good experience with Dr. Sanders at Greater Washington Orthopedics. He treats a lot of athletes. I thought he was very thorough. He has offices in Silver Spring and Rockville.
I'll ask my trainer tomorrow who he used. He just had to have surgery on a muscle in his hip, and I think he was pretty satisfied w the doctor and the PT he's been getting. And he knows lots of things about fitness and stuff. LOL

I don't know about the Rockville office, but Dr. Sanders' Silver Spring office is Metro accessible. It's about a 10-minute walk from the Forest Glen stop on the red line (just make sure you get on the red line going the correct direction...I once made it to Friendship Heights before I realized I was going the wrong way...whoops).
zoidberg, do you have a diagnosis? I remember you were dealing with problems with your hip and trying to figure out what was going on.
Crapped up L4/L5 disc. At its most healed state it still contacts the left descending nerve root and it intermittently gets pretty bad to where I have difficulty walking.

Good to know! We share a car so it's nice not to have to coordinate everything.
Commonwealth Orthopedics has a great PT practice. They have locations throughout the area but mainly on the VA side. It's kinda walkable from Ballston but in VA Hospital Center so it's quite a walk.
EXACT same problem here. Second the Commonwealth Orthopedics rec. Have you tried an epidural? National Spine & Pain Center is AMAZING... but you'll need a doctor to get you into them. I've had a facet joint injection (Into the L4/L5) and 2 epidurals - all 6 months apart and the pain is about 95% better. This morning I had a trigger point injection there and the spasm that the L4/L5 issue caused is gone.

No! I was actually going to right before I moved, but they couldn't get me in until after the day that we were leaving town. I am so happy to hear that this worked for you.
Sure - the only thing that sucked was having to wait to get an appointment - so best to have a doctor call and make it for you.
The facet joint injection was last September - it was pretty easy.. they did a history and examined my back and then I went to the treatment room and laid down on a table.. they have an imaging device above the table, obviously so she could see what she was doing. Dr. Protopappas (I am probably butchering the spelling)was awesome. She talked and played music and chatted.. and then I felt a prick and we were done in a minute. I didn't have any pain with it.
I went back for an epidural in October. The facet joint injection took care of the immediate pain, but I was having referring pain all the way to my hips, so she recommended the epidural. This time I didn't have to go through all the history and stuff.. they literally took me back to the treatment room and same thing.. she chatted and played music and I didn't feel a thing. Total relief.
In March my muscle next to the L4/L5 started having spasms.. and a knot formed. Around the beginning of May the knot was causing alot of pain... so I called and I was able to get in the first week of June (this was calling on my own). I had another epidural and the pain went away, but the knot was still there and wouldn't move. It was like a freaking rock. So, this morning I went in for a trigger point injection. That knot went away, but I'm going back in early Monday for another to get rid of the knot that was hiding underneath it.

I have been having hip pain and muscle spasms in my hip area as well as nerve pain and weakness in my leg, it is really good to know that the injections helped with that. I admit that I am terrified of the shots, but I will do anything.
