I live in California. We have all sorts of camps and lessons planned for the summer, except the last week before school starts -- the final week before my youngest starts kinder.
Any idea on how to do a last-minute and inexpensive vacation? I'm thinking camping, maybe a staycation.
Camping along the coast somewhere? Any ideas?
I've done Big Sur, Yosemite, Sequoia, Arroyo Seco and Lake Cachuma. Lake Cachuma is first come, first served.
We've camped in Santa Barbara (summer) and Kern Valley (winter) - both equally gorgeous. For a younger kid, I would recommend Santa Barbara - there's tons of great campsites and it's near the beach and the mountains/wine country.

California has got 18 national forests and several interesting campsites that would have the mountains and a beach or lake nearby. You might want to check Tahoe National forest. We had loads of fun there a couple of years back!.
