has anyone done this before? the height would be ideal (I hate bending down to get to the sink while brushing my teeth/washing my face). the only difference is that they may be a bit deeper than a bathroom vanity.
The bathrooms in this house were done newly done with kitchen cabinets when we bought the house. The height was pretty similar to the vanities that we had put in at our old house, so that wasn't an issue for us. If they had put thought into the layout it might have made them more functional for us. It might have been nice if they had chosen a style that actually worked with the house, but that would have made too much sense.

We remodeled our bathroom last summer, and our contractor had us pick up kitchen cabinets. We didn't get ours from IKEA, but we love the height and the depth hasn't been an issue for us at all.
I'm not worried about the depth. we have a large bathroom, so the extra 3" wouldn't matter I don't think.
I've been reading and people were mentioning that using cabinets made of particle board won't work in the bathroom. but they make vanities out of particle board, too, don't they?
From what I've seen of the Ikea cabinets, and the fact that they are used in a kitchen, I'm pretty sure they are moisture resistant. That wouldn't be a concern for me.

We didn't do an ikea kitchen cabinet in our bathroom, but we did do a stock oak cabinet in our bathroom. We just cut the depth down so that it would fit a standard 36" sink top. You will have to rebuild the back with some extra supports once cutting it down.
We haven't done this but we did Ikea cabinets in our kitchen. The side where the sink sits is actually deeper than standard. It wasn't really more expensive for the countertop (maybe 5%?) and we positioned the sink the same depth from the front of the cabinet. There's just a little extra space in the back. It is not noticeable whatsoever.
