We are going this fall for a weding. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to get any time off work because 1) I'll have just started 2) I need to save time off for my scheduled infusions and doctor appts
So we booked a flight that leaves early Sat and gets us home Sun night. If I end up having time off, we'll try to extend the trip (is it true Southwest doesn't charge change fees?!). As it stands, it will be a whirlwind trip for sure.
Saturday:
9:10am: Arrive NOLA.
9:20-9:45am: Cab to French Quarter (our hotel), drop off bags
I think it looks awesome & super packed but you know that already.
My only comment one of you should try the Fried Chicken at NOLA, if you like that kind of thing. It was awesome & we went back a 2nd time so we could both have it.
With that little time, I wouldn't waste your time on a street car ride. It is neat, but takes forever (and in our case, was obnoxiously crowded -- and I'm used to crowded mass transit!). I'd cab it to/from Commander's Palace and use the extra time to wander around the Garden District.
Or maybe even skip the cemetery tour. I found ours interesting, but your schedule is awfully tight so I'd probably want to just wander during that time.

I've turned this corner in adulthood that leaves me on my ass until ~1pm if I have more than 2 drinks the night before, so I kind of liked the idea of sitting for a long period of time on Sunday. lol.
but I suppose we can sit in the cab then sit on a park bench! maybe we'll try the street car one way for the experience, or is it a total skip?

If it is hot and you are feeling a little green the streetcar can be brutal... I wasn't feeling so hot riding it last fall to begin with then a girl legit passed out on me. So I would probably choose somewhere stationary and scenic to sit in that case

TOTALLY agreed. The streetcar was jumpy, we didn't have a seat at any point, it was hot in it (in January), and in both directions we had to wait for several cars to go by for there to be one with enough space for us to get in. Experiences may vary, but with a hangover, I'd DEFINITELY skip it.
ok, skipping the streetcar. glad I asked! I also think we'll swap cemetery tours and move lunch up on Saturday to maximize time to explore the city on our own. thanks!
I didn't think NOLA was that good, having lived there for 5 years. If you are looking to stay in the quarter and willing to spend that much money, I would go to Sylvain.

It looks like you have a packed schedule, but I always have to recommend this bike tour when people ask about NOLA. It was an AMAZING way to see a lot of the city and learn about its history:

I also did a bike tour (a different one -- the Freewheelin Bike Tour Crescent & Creole tour) and thought it was a great way to see the city. There's so much more than the French Quarter (and so much of the French Quarter is so gross, touristy, and overcrowded) that I loved having a chance to see more of the city. If it turns out that you can change your flight, I'd work that into your schedule (probably in lieu of the cemetery tour, as the bike tour may go through a cemetery)

This was my first choice but I just didn't see a way to fit it in given their tour times and the length of the tours. morning tours start too early and afternoon tours would cause us to miss the wedding.
Next time! (Or, as v mentioned, if we can change our flights)
Have a wonderful time. We loved Commander's Palace. I still dream about their pork tenderloin with apricot sauce. Also, the .25 cent martinis. We had planned to wander around the cemetery just across from CP. Sadly, we were there on Memorial Day and who would suspect that it would be closed that particular day? Anyway, if you skip the cemetery tour, it would be close and pretty cool. I agree with seeing as much of the Garden District as possible. FWIW, I loved riding the Street Car, the locals were really nice to us. We rode down Canal, since we were staying at the Ritz and headed down to the waterfront.

I really like NOLA. I like Sylvain too, but I never found the food there to be that memorable. Good, just not memorable to me. I might give it an edge in terms of atmosphere though.
My #1 choice if you don't mind spending $$ would be Bayona. But you are also doing Commander's which is always great.
I actually really like riding the streetcar, but if it is really hot out, it's definitely less pleasant. Depending on when in the fall you are going, I think it could be really nice or hot as hell, lol.
