They'll be in in October, pitterwoo - they're staying at the house for a week while I go run a marathon and they are watching the kids. Eeeeeeeeek.
What marathon? We're going to Chicago for DH's 2nd time running it. And is some of their 'stuff' still in thehouse? You alluded to a safe in the MBR in the other thread. I wonder if 'their stuff' will migrate back while you're away.

DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNN....
The ONLY stuff of theirs that remains is the safe, a desk, and a recliner. The recliner and desk are in the pretty much empty Florida room (the only other item in there is our old kitchen table, we have to have the whole room redone due to mold and what not).
The safe...lord have mercy, that thing has been a nightmare. FIL told us under no uncertain terms were we to move that safe out of the master bedroom. He said that "one day" they would come and get it. It's almost as tall as me, about 4 feet across, and is so heavy you would literally have to hire a professional moving company to get it out of the house.
We put carpet in the bedrooms, so it had to come out. And I wasn't going to sleep with that thing in there. He wouldn't ever tell us what was in it, just kept saying we couldn't move it. My husband and I somehow managed to get a couple of old towels under it and slowly moved it out of the bedroom into the dining room. It quite literally took us nearly two hours to do that, and the dining room is NEXT to the bedroom.
FIL nearly killed both of us and I honestly didn't care. Seriously, he turned 10 shades of red and nearly went through the roof.
It's still in the dining room to this day, and my MIL made some weird "safe cover" to try and make it look nicer. Um, no. GET THAT SHIZZ OUT OF HERE. Just because a slightly form fitting table cloth is on it doesn't mean it looks nicer, especially in my dining room. My husband doesn't have a clue what's in there, as the two times they've been down since they moved (last year and the year before) we were asked to leave the house for about 2 hours so they could go through the contents. Maybe it's a body. I'm not sure.
Annnnnnnnnnnd I'm doing Chicago, Marine Corps, NYC. Because I'm a moron who wants to kill herself running. LALALA.

MMMM hmmmm. I figured as much. You people crazy. I'm DH's "pit crew". I hold the bags and clean clothes for when he's done with his run. He's aiming for a sub 3-hour for Chicago (He's got it in him) to BQ for 2016 - I can't wait for 5 nights of vacation! And alcohol. And a hotel room.
Can you guys have that safe moved with a moving Co? Get it out of there! I'd tell FIL that's the plan and that if it's not GONE from your home be T'day, you'll ship it to him, COA. That's your home now. MAKE IT SO!
Maybe seeing the house clean and repainted and you know.... CLEAN will make the IL's realize that their old home is gone.

Omg, a safe cover. That is hilarious and sad all at once.
Nanny-cam the shit out of that room and report back after their visit!

quorra I'm questioning how much of a deal you got with that house. From where I'm sitting the IL's owe you money for taking it and now storage fees for the safe. :?

I'm not normally a worrier, but this has me a bit concerned. Is it possible he has guns in there? If that's the case, or even a chance of it, it could get you and him in very serious legal trouble if your house was ever searched. (Though I guess FL may be more lax on guns than some states). A safe that big is not likely to just contain legal paperwork, right?
Plus, given your FIL's hoarding tendancies, I would be concerned that something toxic is in there that he thinks is perfectly fine.
I would be insisting that it is out of your house by the end of their visit in October. Ugh.

The bolded part made me laugh, even though I wouldn't be thrilled with guns in my house, even if a safe. I also laughed at OP's dead body comment, but I doubt that is what they are keeping in there. Ashes maybe, but not a body.
When we had our kitchen done, we had a small cabinet put into the little empty space between two cabinets that are back to back on the sides of the island. I was wondering what to use it for, and the cabinet installer and every contractor that was here said to use them for 'your guns.' When I gave them a 'you are crazy' look, and said that we didn't have guns, they were shocked. One guy said that he 'thought that they handed everyone a gun when they crossed the border into FL.,' and he was only half joking.
I know a lot of people with multiple gun safes. Even costco sells huge gun safes here...something we never saw when we lived in CA.
I feet like I moved to another planet. We still don't have guns, and we keep our step stool in the 'secret' cabinet. ;p
