BLERGLE! Just got back from my OB appt. No protein in my urine sample, but BP was slightly high. I thought she said it was 120/80, which, while higher than my normal (I'm usually quite low non-pg), seems a little alarmist to call "slightly high." So I'm wondering if maybe I misheard/misremembered and it's higher than that. Aaaaanyway, they want to be cautious, which I do appreciate, so they want to run full labs to rule out pre-e. Took more of my blood and gave me a jug to pee in *and keep it refrigerated* for 24h.
In addition to the fact that having to store my pee in the break room fridge and take it back and forth to the bathroom with a pee-hat collector that I'd also have to rinse in the bathroom all sounds positively dreadful, there's also the fact that I often can't find room in the fridge for a bottle of water, let alone a giant pee jug! Sooo between that and the knowledge that I haven't shown any urine protein so far and BP is only slightly high, I've made the command decision to wait until Sunday to do my collection rather than doing it tomorrow.
120/80? My midwife and doctor would do a dance of joy if mine was that low, lol.
Good luck, hope your aim is pretty good.
Right? I feel like I must've been focusing on the fact that they were proposing peeing in a jug and forgot the number... lol
Oh and that's the other thing! There's like a giant pee collector that covers the whole toilet seat to catch the pee, and then you pour that in the jug. Soooo I'd have to like, clean that out at work?! Newp.
Yeah, I'd be waiting until the weekend at well. Good luck!
My blood pressure has been in the mid 130's/mid 80's this entire pregnancy and my ob has not been worried at all as it has stayed consistent.
Yeah, I'm thinking it's more that it's a bit on the high side for ME, vs being high on an average/broader scale. I really think it's because I woke up late and rushed and sat in traffic yadda yadda. But I'm definitely a better-safe-than-sorry type, so I'll be glad to rule it out.
Yeah, I have to do a 24-hr urine collection in the next few days as well (chronic hypertension coming into the pregnancy). I made the command decision to wait for a day when I could do this at home. Cuz gross.
Also, I'll just be keeping it in the fridge, but mom mentioned to me that every time dad has had to do this at home or at the hospital, they just keep the bottle of pee on ice rather than in the fridge.
LOL @ asparagus. That would be some funky-ass pee come the next day.
My BP has been suuuuper low while pregnant, so I can imagine the alarm if yours went up a good amount suddenly. I am close to 120/80 normally and I've been hovering in the 100-105/60 range since my first OB appointment.
Haha, yeah both times I've done this I have waited for the weekend. Those had no urgency because I was just getting a baseline, though. The first time was during the winter and they said I could just keep the jug in the garage. FWIW my BP runs around 130/80-140/90 routinely. 120/80 would be a good number for me!
I think the pee hat is worse than the jug in the work fridge! I would definitely have to think about how to smuggle that to and from the work bathroom.
Just one of many sacrifices of basic dignity required to safely bring a baby into the world!
I had to do this for BP twice and never had any protein appear. I was lucky that I was already on bed rest so didn't have to work so I just bought ice and a disposable ice chest and kept it in one bathroom. I used plastic cups to collect and then put them in the jug. Taking the completely full jug back to the lab was so much fun and not at all awkward.

I had to do this! Luckily, I was already on maternity leave and didn't have to do it at work. I would have been horrified. Having a large jug of pee in our personal fridge made my husband cringe on the regular. HAHA. Good times. The fun part was carrying it up a flight of stairs and dropping it off at the lab. I have never been more careful in my life!
A collector that covers the whole seat? At first when you said there was a collector you had to use I thought "oh, that's good, cuz I had issues just trying to pee in a cup the other day so this makes collection easier" and was picturing a little funnel thing.
But it's HUGE - like whole seat huge? No way. I would stay home tomorrow - medical emergency and all.

OMG you guys. LOL I am CRACKING the hell up. My BABY SHOWER BRUNCH is on Sunday. It's about an hour to the hostess's house, so there is no way I could just not go for 2h plus however long the shower is. I almost peed myself with laughter when I imagined myself showing up to the shower already feeling huge and gross but trying my best to look cute................... with a jug o' pee tucked under my arm.
