oh no! I was hoping this would be the instant cure as well Hopefully it continues to resolve as he gets older and you are pumping more rather than feeding him directly. At least there isn't any issue that would cause problems down the road?
Yeah I'm glad I went just so now I know later they won't be saying he has a lip or tongue tie and we should have fixed it sooner ...
Thank you all. I'm so glad to have this place to vent.
I've cried a lot today and tonight but when I was nursing him to sleep his sweet little face with it's stupid small latch was so sweet. It's all worth it.

I seriously wish there was a magical answer for this for you. I'd cross the ends of the earth to get it for you at this point, because my goodness, this has been such a painful and daunting ordeal for you, and I'm sorry for that. But you have no idea how inspiring and awesome your perseverance is. You're amazing, and I'm praying the pain subsides soon. Big hugs.
Oh man, I'm so sorry. I really wish it was an easy fix. You're doing an amazing job of powering through. I hope the pain goes away soon and I'll be thinking good thoughts about your nipples.

Everyone keeps saying he has a small mouth but perhaps you have GIANT nipples. :-)
I'm glad/sorry its not a lip tie. Continue to be zealous with your nipple care even though it gets annoying...massage milk into them after every feed, air dry, warm salt water soak/air dry etc. Did you everget the super special nipple cream? If not, you deserve it.

I made it myself after spaghetticat posted the recipe! It's been great! I made another batch last week and have been using it at night but last night I didn't bother which may be a good sign
I also wonder if it has helped me avoid thrush after the antibiotics because it contains monistat? I don't know if that's how thrush works though. After I took antibiotics when Matilda was a newborn I got thrush and it's so painful.
Yes maybe my nipples are just enormous haha. They are probably the size of my normal full boobs right now
K, so what you're going to do is get on a plane and come to Toronto, then, you're going to get an appointment with the magical Dr Jack Newman and he'll fix everything, then you'll come hang out with me.
I'm sorry it wasn't anything easily and obviously fixable. I hope things keep getting better.
Hello, I have lurked around this board for a long time. I have a daughter that was born in March of 2012 and a son that was born this March. For some reason I have been reluctant to join/post but this post by laurack is compelling me to step out of my shell. I used to work as a labor and delivery nurse and helped many women with breastfeeding. After having an unmedicated childbirth I went home with my daughter expecting breastfeeding to be challenging. I was not prepared for the physical and emotional pain. I would sit up at night on tears from the pain. I would place my back against the headboard so I wouldn't jerk away from my daughter as she latched. I had also received help from the LCs at the birth center who told us we had a good latch. People kept telling me that my nipples would be sore but it would get better. After 5 days of this I had a LC come to the house. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. She discovered a posterior tongue tie that was not visible to the eye (I have heard these can cause the most pain when nursing). She referred us to a dentist and after many tears and much deliberation we had it snipped. Instant relief. It took a while for my nipples to heal but it was a whole new world. I would have given that LC every penny I had in pocket if she had asked for it. We went on to nurse for over a year and half. Out of coincidence we also happened to go to an ENT during that time because my daughter needed to have her hearing test redone. The ENT did not think she had a tongue tie and said even if she did she would not recommend having it clipped. I am so happy we didn't listen.
