Tendinitis means REST. Seriously, stay off it as much as you can, ice a couple times a day, and you will heal faster than if you don't take care of it. I've been to PT for tendinitis, but if you're happy with your podiatrist's opinion that you don't need it then you may get to skip that part.
I have this and it hasn't gotten better which depresses me and the main reason i haven't been around much. It's been about 7 weeks of no running which is beyond depressing. My orthopedic dr sent me to physical therapy and they did active release and cross friction massage which was the most painful thing ever. I went back to doctor last week finally and he said no more PT just the exercises and no running. I have another few weeks before I head back to the dr. I still have pain it is slightly getting better. I have an air cast to wear around the house which helps lessen the pain and he prescribed some pain reliever foam that i rub into the area. Just keep the path and it will get better. ( that is what i'm telling myself)
Were you wearing boots that support your ankle? This would limit the amount your ankle can dorsiflex and may cause Achilles tendinitis. My calves are always sore after wearing my boots for the first time in awhile. I would give it a little more time before you seek out more treatment. Make sure you are stretching your gastrocnemius and soleus muscles, rest, and ice. A heel lift may help initially but I would caution using that too much because it can in the long run perpetuate the problem.

Yes! I was wearing over the ankle hiking boots...I knew I should have just worn my regular shoes!

My podiatrist has never prescribed any PT - even after my foot fracture (I had two metatarsal fractures and a cuboid fracture). She gave me exercises to do at home. If I'm still having pain in a week or so, I'm going to seek out some sort of orthopedic/sports injury doctor for an opinion I think.
Thanks for everyones thoughts and experiences! I don't post here often because I don't have much to add as I don't run or bike competitively, and it seems most of you guys are always out running marathons (or crazy like 50 mile races..!!)..but I enjoy reading about your experiences and getting some insight into things I wouldn't otherwise!
Rest, stretch, ice. Rinse, lather, repeat. I've been dealing with achilles tendonitis since December. I've been in PT for the past couple of months after giving up the ghost that it wouldn't go away on its own. Being diligent with the stretches and exercises they have me doing is what has made it start getting better.
I can't speak to the heel lifts, as my orthopedic doctor is not a fan of them at all for tendonitis.
