Switching from zantac to Prevacid - update with question

Anyone else do this?

ds has been on zantac for nearly a month. It definitely helps, but seems like the symptoms are coming back so dr has offered to put him on Prevacid.  Anyone else do this?  Anything I need to know?  Dr said it was a 1x a day, but I've seen on line where people do 2x a day. 

Update - We ended up getting the prevacid in liquid. I seen some stuff that says the liquid loses effectiveness after about a week, but all of that info seems a couple of years old. Surely they've improved it by now? Or do I need to see about getting the solutabs?

There are rules about eating/drinking within a certain timeframe I think.

We did this and tried to wean off Zantac but demon child returned without both. My doctor had me keep him on Zantac about ten days for the Prevacid to start working. We only do it once at night and use the melt ones soon with water in a syringe and he loves it.

We did this once the zantac wasn't as effective. We did a combo of both zantac and prevacid for a week and then just did prevacid alone. She was on half a tab once a day. We gave it to her in the morning right when she woke up. You're suppose to wait 30 minutes before feeding but our pediatrician said it was ok if we didn't wait the full 30 min. By the time we got her diaper and clothes changed and bottle ready, it was more like 10-15 min. At first, we were giving it to her in a syringe mixed with water but as she got older and I didn't worry as much about her choking, we were placing it inside her cheek and it would just dissolve on its own.

We started with a half-tab in the pm a bit before bed but upped it to twice a day after a few weeks. It was the max dosage for her age/weight but it worked. The pedi told me not to bother with dissolving it in water. Just stick it under her tongue (I actually tucked it in her cheek) and it dissolved very quickly. If you have to cut the tabs in half, I'd pick up a pill splitter at the pharmacy.

We were very happy with Prevacid. It was life changing for us.

we did because zantac did not work well at all. L takes it 1x (6mL-liquid form not tabs) a day and then zantac at bedtime, but i know of others who take it 2x a day instead.

I'm not sure what we are getting yet as dr. Is calling in prescription tomorrow.

the dr. didn't say anything about overlapping the zantac and prevacid for a bit. Is this something I should ask about?

You could ask about doubling up. We doubled up with pepcid and prevacid for months because that's all that would work. (Zantac did absolutely nothing to help my oldest).

I was told it takes time to build up so I would ask for sure. Reflux sucks.
