We have a cottage care company for our vacation house in Michigan. Mr. Pom and I left 6/28 to come home to TX. I had called care company to make certain they would come immediately for the garbage which we bagged and left for pick-up in the garage. Respose was no problem, not to worry. Friend stopped over 7/1 and garbage was still there. I texted, no response. Then I e-mailed to which I got an immediate response that he would be on his way over to pick it up.
My friends stop over tonight, the house smells like an outhouse, because the garage STILL HAS BAGS OF GARBAGE IN IT. Mr. Pom calls repeatedly until caretaker answers. Mr. P tells him the house smells, he needs to get over there to take care of it and that friends are expecting him. Caretaker doesn't really comment other than "oh shit" not really an apology or anything. I am pissed. We've had this company for over a year. No problems thus far and I know this is such a busy time, but come.the.fuck.on. This is the 4th time we had to ask it to be taken care of...what would you do? Fire them? Expect a credit on the service? An apology? Not too happy about this at all.
Actually, he just called back. Garbage picked up, said it was his fault, heartfelt apology to Mr. Pom. Aired out house. I guess I need to sick H on everyone more often. At the exact same time, lawn care company was here to drop off a new light since they busted one of our solars around the pool while we were in Michigan. We had to call them 4 times to get the yard here mowed. Granted we are not their regular lawn customers, but christ. Don't say your going to do something and ignore me.
Fuck, I am so sick of riding other people to do their jobs. I am willing to pay. How can I throw money at shit when you won't complete the job. Ugh.

Is your house very northern Michigan?
Same thing happened to my SIL's parents except the guy never winterized the house. First weekend of the summer was spent calling restoration services to fix the flooded house from burst pipes.

It's 30 miles south of the bridge. We are trolls
Oh god with the burst pipes, that is a major reason I have a caretaker but still call a plumbing company myself to winterize. How horrible for them.
Pom...you've had such a shitty couple of weeks. Hang in there and have a glass (bottle) of wine.
Mr. Pom opted to take me to Sonic for a little treat. He's too scared to give me wine. Or the Wild Turkey I requested. That makes me super.fun.scary.crazy.

Hang in there. I would definitely expect an apology and a credit for the non service. If you think they won't screw up again, I'd keep them for the time being and replace them at a later date.

See my post of Wednesday about the wood delivery to our cabin, they stacked 1/4 of it, and left the rest in a giant pile the size of a car by the driveway (suppose to stack all of it). I have bigger fish to fry at the moment and can't worry my pretty little head to much about it. I asked them to have the mystery "boss man" to call, but of course, he didn't. My method for crap like this, and it seems my life has a lot of crap like this, is to change the lock box code, and move on to the next recommendation I can find.
I am pretty good at dealing with most contractors, and don't use those who don't treat me as the "client" twice, many of the ones I use regularly give me a square deal, but I am afraid of the wood people. They seem like crazy. Mr. Pom is a smart man not to give you Wild Turkey BTW, which may or may not be my "trail name". Glad he has chosen the ice cream option.
On top of the other stuff your dealing with, it is the straw that broke the camel's back. Have a better next week.
Ugh, Pom you should NOT have to deal with this on top of your FIL issues.
Since you have a friend in the area, I would give these guys one more chance UNLESS you know of a reputable company you can switch to immediately.
I would call them and ask what the compensation is given you had to remind them of a fairly routine task several times. See what they say, but yes I would expect a credit or "next month free" type credit (not sure exactly how your contract / arrangement with them is set up.)
So clearly a populated area. I would have given them some slack if it was a remote location in the UP, but not in your situation.
Aside from trash pick-up, what other services are they providing for you?
Security check, yard cleanup, mowing, he's done painting in the off season for us. I am willing to let it go I guess since he called and apologized and took responsibility. Also, it was tough finding someone to trust in the first place. I will find someone new if something like this happens again,
