It depends on how lazy I am being. Cakes and baked goods? I pre-heat. Chicken or casserole type dinners? I just shove it in there while it is pre-heating and then add a few minutes onto the cooking time to account for heating up time.
Wait. Why are you people putting bacon in the oven? I fry that shit in a pan. I feel as though I'm missing a super secret bacon cooking method.
Bacon in the oven is the TRUTH. It makes it perfectly crispy. Highly recommend.
OMG yes and no getting splashed and burned by the grease! It's the best kept secret ever, esp if you are cooking a lot. Just lay it on a cookie sheet and watch it cook.

I will occasionally stick something in a cold oven and program it to turn on when I'm not home, but that's a rare exception. And that's usually something roasted in parchment so it's not going to dry out during the preheat stage. I do love delayed tstart, and auto shutoff.
