I hadn't seen the newer commercial...how terrifying.

I called my credit card company today and had to wade through several surveys and ads. The first one was "Are you over 50?" Since I am now 50 years old I clicked yes - and was transferred to "you qualify for a free panic button!" and was I interested. Newp. I'm not that old damn you. I qualify for AARP but fuck you on the Life Alert.

I liked them better when they were so stupid they were funny. A la "clap on, clap off, the Clapper!"

This is exactly where I'm at. I actually couldn't even watch the whole thing.

I'll never forget the night H's grandmother fell and broke her hip right after I had moved in with her. I had just arrived home after going out with my mom and her friend. I figured she was asleep since it was late and the light in her room was off, so I headed upstairs to use the restroom and right as I was pulling down my pants I hear one of the most terrifying sounds. It was the life alert going off.

Needless to say I flew down the stairs while pulling my pants back up. All I heard was the alert and then the live person comes on asking if Nana is OK and if she is alone. I informed the lady that I was there and after much searching (life alert lady is set to LOUD and she wouldn't shut up so I could hear) I found Nana next to her bed behind behind her bedroom door. She missed the edge when she went to get back into bed in the dark. So the lady calls for an ambulance. I also called H's parents and they came rushing over.

Problem was- apparently the ambulance service they called couldn't get a crew together (it was Saturday night) but never dispatch know, so dispatch thought it was taken care of. About 30 minutes after the call was made and H's parents had made it all the way across town we start calling to try and find out where this ambulance is. It took another 15 minutes of calls for this information to come to light and they call for another ambulance service. An ambulance didn't end up showing up until an hour after the first call.

My point is, if someone hadn't been there to call and stay on top of things, who knows how long that poor person would have been stuck laying there waiting, thinking help was on the way. Luckily H's parents live nearby so they would have headed over anyway, but not everyone has family nearby. I'm near tears just thinking about it. It breaks my heart
