How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? I'd say 8. My long run this weekend about darn near killed me. It wasn't as fast as I wanted, but it was still a good, hard workout.
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? I don't really I just may realize that it might take an extra cycle to meet the goal.

When is your marathon? 10/26, MCM
How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? I'll say a 7. It's going fine, but running in the heat and humidity is rough.
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? I usually have flexible goals for marathons, so this isn't really an issue for me. I've learned that despite following a training plan to the letter, weird things can happen on race day.
Who wants to play a little "never have I ever", marathon edition? Tell us some of the crazy, zany things you have done, or have thought about doing during training and we'll see who here can confess to the same zaniness. Are we supposed to confess something, or say something we haven't done? I'm not sure, so I'll do one of both.
Never have I ever run in a race that I wasn't registered for. Confession: I have peed in the woods during long runs. Many times.
Where is the most interesting place you've run so far this training cycle? I guess Rock Creek Park in DC. I know later in the summer, we run through the National Zoo.
Why is it Monday already!?!? Race weekends go by so quickly Tell us something you're looking forward to this week! Pizza. LOL. Hello, runger!
Good morning Ladies! Happy Bastille Day! I promise the questions will not be in French this morning
When is your marathon? Chicago marathon 10/12
How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? I'd say about 7.5/8. The runs are hard but not so hard that I'm hating myself...yet.
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? My half in April was the first time that trained for a time goal, but I'll reassess if things are too easy/hard. I also have a general sense of what I should feel like in the days after a long or hard run and will reassess if it's taking me longer to get back to "normal".

Never have I ever peed my pants during a run. *knock on wood*
Where is the most interesting place you've run so far this training cycle? This past weekend I got to run 10/16 miles on the Central Canal towpath. It goes past Butler University and the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
Why is it Monday already!?!? Race weekends go by so quickly Tell us something you're looking forward to this week! This week is going to be same old, same old.
How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? 8
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? unless you live in seattle, it's too hot and/or humid to really assess pace right now. I have my A,B, and C goals in mind, but I'll be reassessing them in September.
Who wants to play a little "never have I ever", marathon edition? Tell us some of the crazy, zany things you have done, or have thought about doing during training and we'll see who here can confess to the same zaniness.
I've never lost a toenail. never even come close. I've also never run more than 20 mi for a training run. I've only once stopped for a bathroom break during a race. I ran the entire chicago marathon needing to pee. I've never peed/poo'd in the woods mid run/race.
Where is the most interesting place you've run so far this training cycle? the mall.
Why is it Monday already!?!? Race weekends go by so quickly Tell us something you're looking forward to this week! polar vortex and my first track workout with my training group.
How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? 7. I've hit all my workouts inclusing the speedwork, but I still think my half goal (sub 7 pace) might have been a tad agressive. I haven't thought about marathon goals yet.
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? Just a general feeling usually. I try to be flexible with the plan, and race a few times during training since that is my best indicator of running fitness.
Who wants to play a little "never have I ever", marathon edition? Tell us some of the crazy, zany things you have done, or have thought about doing during training and we'll see who here can confess to the same zaniness. When I was pregnant with my 3rd I peed just about everywhere (but no accidents!) Thank Goodness the double Bob has good coverage.
Where is the most interesting place you've run so far this training cycle? C&O? I haven't gone anywhere recently, so nothing too exciting. I love/hate running Antietam b/c of all the hills. It is beautiful and peaceful, but mile long uphills happen.
Why is it Monday already!?!? Race weekends go by so quickly Tell us something you're looking forward to this week! We are headed up to NJ on Friday. After my long run, of course. Priorities!
How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? I'm gonna say a 7. I feel good despite the heat and coming off my PR last month makes me ready for the next challenge.
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? I think if I felt I wasn't seeing progress in places. I try to set a low manageable goal and a higher slightly harder goal. That way, usually I can hit the easy one and still feel I accomplished something.
Who wants to play a little "never have I ever", marathon edition? Tell us some of the crazy, zany things you have done, or have thought about doing during training and we'll see who here can confess to the same zaniness. Never have I ever woken up before 7am to do a training run. (Were not talking race days here, just running on my own) I am not a morning person. So much so I'd rather slog through a warmer workout than get up before dawn to run on my own. Even for my 20 milers.
Where is the most interesting place you've run so far this training cycle?
I guess the bike path here. Its got some really pretty views.
Why is it Monday already!?!? Race weekends go by so quickly Tell us something you're looking forward to this week!
My sister is coming to visit this week! I can't wait!
How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? I'm going with a 7? The marathon is a training run, part of a 50ish mile weekend...and right now I think I'm on track to survive it!
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? I'm on a roll with "get to the finish line happy" goals...it's working for me right now and I'm taking on new distances so I really do need just a finish line! Next year I can focus on number related goals!
Who wants to play a little "never have I ever", marathon edition? Tell us some of the crazy, zany things you have done, or have thought about doing during training and we'll see who here can confess to the same zaniness. I've never...fallen on the trail. Which is almost unheard of. I should go knock on wood and pay up to the Karma gods for saying that out loud!
Where is the most interesting place you've run so far this training cycle? Mountain running in general. I haven't had any good destination runs lately but that's going to change this coming weekend when I'm running here --
[not me, but a friend who ran the loop two weeks ago]
Why is it Monday already!?!? Race weekends go by so quickly Tell us something you're looking forward to this week! I'm looking forward to next weekend -- where I get to escape into the mountains for a long run with friends!
How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? 5? Slow but steady
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? I'm just trying to finish, so my goal is pretty easy right now (first - and only - marathon).
Who wants to play a little "never have I ever", marathon edition? Tell us some of the crazy, zany things you have done, or have thought about doing during training and we'll see who here can confess to the same zaniness.
Not much - no toe losses, bathroom emergencies (yet!) We run in neighborhoods with home construction, so there have been opportunities for potty breaks in the portapotties on the sites (but not yet had to partake)
Where is the most interesting place you've run so far this training cycle? We run through neighborhoods in Houston, which by and large are not that exciting, but last week's run included a high end area with some huge houses. We also ran down by the bayou on the trails a few weeks ago - it was my favorite run so far.
Why is it Monday already!?!? Race weekends go by so quickly Tell us something you're looking forward to this week! Not much - just another week.
How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? I would say a 7 or 8. I've gotten in the majority of my runs, and they have been decent. Not as good as last training cycle, but not bad
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? Ie, would it take easily/struggling to be hitting certain paces, easy/difficult recovery, a general sense of "strength", etc? Hmm... all of the above I guess. I usually don't decide what my goal is until at least halfway through a training cycle, and I base my goal on where I am at that time.
Who wants to play a little "never have I ever", marathon edition? Tell us some of the crazy, zany things you have done, or have thought about doing during training and we'll see who here can confess to the same zaniness. Hmmm I can't think of anything particularly weird right now. I've lost toenails, peed in bushes, been chased by a dog... all that good stuff.
Where is the most interesting place you've run so far this training cycle? I do the huge majority of my running on the lakefront trail, and it *almost* never gets old.
Why is it Monday already!?!? Race weekends go by so quickly Tell us something you're looking forward to this week! I'm looking forward to tomorrow! I have the day off work and I'm going to treat myself to a breakfast out after my AM run. I had to work all weekend so I am ready for a day off!

How is training going for you, on a scale from 1-10, 1 being "shoot me in the face" and 10 being "look out Shalane, I'm coming for you!"? So far it's a 7-ish. It's going fine but nothing super exciting.
What does/would it take for you to reassess your race goals during training? My goal is really to finish strong and see what happens--an injury would cause me to reassess running my race.
