Early last year I had a fracture in my calcaneous (heel) bone that landed me in a walking boot for almost 4 months. I recovered and ran a marathon relatively (a bit of shin pain from what I discovered were worn out shoes) pain free a year later (March 2014). I've been taking it REALLY easy since the marathon- nothing much longer than 8 for a long run and between 3-4 miles during the week- slowly. I also took a month off after the marathon.
Now. I have pain in my heel. Again. I want to cry. Last year when this happened, the pod thought that it might be osteopenia (due to previous SFX) but I tested negative for it. He wanted me to see a bone specialist, but I wasn't keen on the proposed treatments (ie effects fertility) so I put it off and thought I would see what happens.
I'm so sad. I just hope this is PF or something more treatable. I'm going to the podiatrist tomorrow, so we'll see what he says. Just needed to well, I dunno, whine?
GOOD NEWS- it's NOT a stress fracture! Bad news, we're not EXACTLY sure what it is. Things it's not: SFX, Mortons Neuroma.. Essentially, it sounds like (according to my doctor) that I had some discomfort under the ball of my foot so I started to alter the way I run and caused a chain reaction of problems. We're treating it like Plantar Faciitis right now (arch pad and green superfeet w/slight modifications) and I got back in 3 weeks to see if that helped, it so- he wants to prescribe custom orthodics.
SO, we'll see how it goes. I've never been a fan of orthodics, but these doctors have kept so many runners here on the road/trails/etc, I trust them. Anyone else had experience w/orthodics/PF?
Oh no! I'm sorry that you are reinjured. I hope it is something treatable. Sending hair pats.
Thanks I'm hoping I caught it early enough this time that it will be more treatable! It's not like limping, can't walk pain like before, but it's not good and it's not going away either.
NOOO! I'm so sorry you're having pain again, and I really hope it's nothing too serious. Take it easy and we'll all be sending good thoughts your way for a best case scenario diagnosis. {Hugs}
Thanks y'all! I feel super whiny, but it's just I looove running so much and it scares me what happens when I have to let go a bit! Luckily I am a bit more adjusted to swimming and biking as good cross training so I am in a much better place mentally if that's what the doctor orders this time!
I'm so sorry. Fingers crossed that it is something minor, and that you're just overly cautious/sensitive due to your history. Let us know what you find out!

I'm hoping so- I can be really neurotic about injuries after what happened last time!
