Mine is a sales assistant and he sells promotional products (like cups, umbrellas, stuff like that with logos on it). It's interesting sometimes, but he's pretty obsessed, lol. He's always looking at products we get from other places and figuring out where they came from and how much they cost. He does get some cool free/cheap stuff so it's nice
My husband makes custom countertops, for very high end homes. I love hearing about the houses he gets to see. They are all so fancy and they spend too much money on their houses. (Some people spend $200-500k on countertops!!!!)

This is really interesting. It fascinates me how people spend their money. I also LOVE houses (and probably the only reason I have been able to do the remodel for so long). I love going through houses and seeing layouts, construction details, and so on.
What kind of software? I work with software engineers...they create it, I break it. Better me than our customers
He has worked on a number of projects ranging from national security to law enforcement database systems. I am not usually allowed to know details, but I know it's more engaging than the majority of development at private sector companies. He is always grateful for the testers breaking things he makes because he is a perfectionist and wants no errors.
His job sounds very interesting! Definitely better than the typical software engineer projects! And good for him for wanting the testers to find things and for him being open to making the changes to have the best product possible! That is a great quality to have and not one that all developers possess (speaking from experience...my biggest frustration right now is with one of our developers...all issues I've brought to his attention are being passed to the next version. Very frustrating because he's so close-minded to change. Luckily, this is only going to be released to submit for FDA approval; therefore, no customers will interface with it).

We work at the same company, down the hall from each other. Our jobs aren't identical, but they're pretty similar. We talk about work quite a bit. Come to think of it, I probably talk about it more than him; I use him as a sounding board about my projects, because he tends to ask really good questions. But I'm fairly interested in his job too.

Mine is a full time student. He is going for nutritional sciences to be a Registered Dietician. It is his passion and fits him perfectly. I hear about it a lot and now get dirty looks when I eat ice cream.
He was a project manager and estimator for a commercial flooring company prior to going back to school. He hated it and was miserable, this is a better fit for everyone.

This.
Same company. Buildings right next to each other. I find his work interesting, he finds mine less so (because it's more clinical and he is a business/opps type). It makes it easy when we are telling stories though, because at least 50% of the time we know the people the other one is discussing.

My H actually got a promotion of sorts onto a better project (his current job) because the previous engineer wouldn't work well with the testers, so they ditched him and brought on my H. I don't understand the people that are resistant to their advice because it really isn't a personal slight against them, it's part of the creative process so to speak. My sister in law is a tester for really boring software for a health insurance company and she runs into the same frustrations as you mentioned. It must be a universal complaint
Way to go JJ's DH!!! That's awesome!
Sorry to hear about your SIL...I think it's part of any tester territory. It just depends on the teams and timelines. Many times things are driven because the product just needs to get out. But that's not a good enough excuse for me. I take pride in what I do and want the best product out the door. The way I look at it is that I will do my job, make my comments/recommendations, and then the team can decide how to proceed. If they move forward then at least it's documented that I was opposed to it. I try not to take it personal but sometimes that's really hard.

I know hey, we bought out house for 300k, that's usually the low end people spend on their counters. How do people do this!!!
I love houses as well but I still couldn't do all the renos that you have been doing, you are a brave brave woman. Lol
jjwritergirl- I know hey. I knew that people spend a lot of money on houses but when DH started his job I was shocked at the money people spend on certain things in there house.
DH works in customer service. Right now he works in a call center for a large office supply store, but he's actually starting a new job next month doing at home support for Apple
Every once in a while he'll have a funny story- but generally no, his work stories are usually super boring and require a ridiculous amount of background information to even make any sense

One of my friend's husbands has this job. He seems to like it and hasn't felt the need to move to anything different in 3 years. I hope your husband has an equally positive experience. Customer service can be a bitch sometimes.
I am so glad to hear that! And yes, I don't know how he does it- I tell him all the time that I could never do his job. I worked retail in college for a few years and that was more than enough dealing with customers for me.
Mine is a full time student as well. Completing his PhD in American Political History. I find it interesting, and I learn a lot about it since I edit his thesis on a regular basis. Still, because it's not my country there are times when I feel like enough is enough. That's usually when I make him watch a documentary about Pierre Trudeau or watch Bon Cop Bad Cop so that my culture doesn't get neglected lol.
My h works in IT for a local university. His stuff is SO technical that I fall asleep if he talks about much! Luckily he doesn't go into depth often! My job is much more interesting and drama filled, lol.
