South Beach hotel recommendations?

For 3 nights in February for DH and me! (I'm doing the Florida Keys ragnar race and then he is meeting me in Miami.)

He'd like to be close to the beach. I'd like it reasonably priced. (We are architects, so we'd enjoy interesting design.) Recommendations?
