Did anyone go into labor while they were just out and about in the middle of the day? Most women I know IRL, with the exception of one friend whose water broke on the subway during her commute home from work, were either sleeping or just hanging out at home when labor started. What was your experience?
This question brought to you by the nagging fear that I should have my hospital bag with me anytime I leave the house for an extended period of time...

I was sleeping.
If you do go into labor when you're out, is it likely that your H would go straight from work to the hospital? I would bring a few essentials with me if that is the case. Otherwise, I'd leave everything at home if it's feasible for him to stop at home before meeting you at the hospital.

My water broke after I used the bathroom at my sister's house. I was 6 days from my due date. I had no previous signs that anything was going to start-no contractions, not dialated, etc.
I felt a shift while I was at work on Wednesday and then decided to work from home the next day. I can only describe it as a shift because it felt weird but nothing really happened. I then woke up at 4 am and had 2 contractions every hour until 3pm when they turned to 6 contactions per hour and then sped up from there. I kept my bag in the car with me. I also drove myself home during horrible contractions when I probably shouldn't have.
Eta: the bag for me was useless. I didn't use anything in it until the day I went home from the hospital. Except for the camera.

I was at work. I had actually been at the hospital that morning for an NST and u/s, and nothing was happening then. Went back to work, felt a little crampy and weird, but thought it was bc I was starving from eating lunch so late.
TMI AHEAD
Contractions started picking up after I had a couple of "need to go NOW" bathroom trips, and had bloody show. Worked until 5pm and debated driving to the hospital, but went home instead, and on the drive called my OB and DH and determined it was for real, and probably a bad idea to be driving. I live the opposite direction from the hospital- work is in between. I was just worried if I went straight to the hospital, they'd send me home.
Anyway, I basically fine one minute, and crazy active labor the next. Water never broke. It's making me really nervous for this time around.

With my first, I was woken up by a contraction at 4 am and then by another at 7 am.
With my second, my water broke at home at 2 pm. I had been out all morning, including at the OB, before that. Looking back, I think I felt a few drops of water trickle out on my way to the OB (assumed it was urine), but the time I got there, I had forgotten all about it.

I was at home both times. First time contractions woke me up at 5 am. Second time I had trouble falling asleep and contractions started around midnight.
My water broke in the middle of the night, but labor was induced the next day because my contractions didn't start. My BFF had her water break on her lunch break at work. It's always possible!
nope, but I went to my 39 week appointment to find that my blood pressure had sky rocketed out of nowhere. I was sent to the hospital for monitoring and, eventually an induction. I didn't need the bag with me, but I was glad that my bag was packed and ready to go because I only got to run home between the appointment/the hospital to grab my bag and my H before the start of a very long labor in which I was very happy to have packed a few comforts (and chargers for my ipad/phone!).
My water broke while I was having dinner at my mom's house, 2 days before my due date. I shoved towels in my pants (there was that much fluid!) and DH drove me to the hospital. He went home to get my bag after I was settled into my hospital room.
I was sleeping, got up to pee, and then realized labor had started.
But my coworkers were all paranoid that I would go into labor at work and that my water would break. I told them even if labor started at work, I would just drive home, meet DH, and then go to the hospital.
With DS1 I was at work and had been for about an hour. I hung up from a conference call, stood up to go get breakfast, and surprise, my water broke in that movie-like big gushing way. Thank god the person I shared my office with was out for the week!

My water broke at 2am and contractions started right away. The on call told me I had 8 hrs to get to the hospital. I endend up being in labor for 17 hours so would have had plenty of time.
Contractions started when I was at work. But only one really bad one and then just felt kind of off. I didn't even realize it was labor. Finished by shift drove the almost hour home ( all the time wondering if it was contractions), walked the dog for an hour and then decided to time them and they were 5 minutes apart

I was induced with DS1 (pre-e)- had an NST and was told to drive home, get my bag, and go to the hospital.
With DS2 I was going to bed and kept feeling these "funny" feelings pretty regularly. I waited to tell DH for an hour or so because I wasn't sure they were contractions. Got to the hospital about an hour after that and was 6 cm. My water had to be broken.
I was at work. Contractions started a little before 4pm on Tuesday so I worked another hour or so then labored at home until 5am Wednesday. My water was broken around 11pm Wednesday night and C was born at 5:40 Thursday morning.
My water broke about 30 minutes after I fell asleep. I had a weird dream and jumped out of bed and felt a pop. I was so grateful for my weird dream because as soon as I walked into our bathroom it started gushing. Yay for saving the sheets!

My water broke unexpectedly at home. I didn't have contractions for a couple hours, but was shake and wouldn't have been able to drive myself anywhere.
This time I have a bag with a couple baby blankets, an absorbant pad for the seat of the car and instructions on how to deliver a baby, in case labor happens really fast while I am out. I highly doubt I will need any of that, but it goes me peace of mind to have it. The women in my family have short labors.
I started having contractions while we were out to eat with DD 1, but I wasn't really sure that it was labor yet until later that evening at home.
With DD 2, we were at home when contractions began, we went out to dinner (where they got bad pretty quickly), came home and packed up our stuff and then went to the hospital.
Most people have plenty of time between the inkling that labor may be starting and delivery, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
