Sure you could do it, but why? Enjoy the day snuggling with the baby in peace and quiet. No one will judge you for staying home, so it's guilt-free, too!

Ditto PPs. We took 1.5 week old DS to a birthday party that I made cakes for, but it was only 1/2 hour away. A 3 hour drive would have meant stopping part way at least once to nurse and diaper.
The only reason I took DD3 out at two weeks was for DD1's 4th birthday party. Lucky for us, she slept in her car seat the whole time and no one, thankfully, at the party (a bounce house) asked to touch her there.

We drove DD 2hrs at 3 wks old for DH's grandmothers funeral. That is about the only reason I would drive that far with a newborn. It was so stressful. She was eating every 1.5-2hrs at that point. so stressul. I would stay home.
(Also a FTM who had a ridiculous recovery, so, that made it extra difficult).

Another vote for party, yes but not one 3 hours away. Never mind how tired/uncomfortable I'd be, I'd hate to get there then find out someone showed up sick, or the baby is incredibly cranky, etc. You don't just leave after ten minutes when you've driven that far!
