With DD, we got a crib/crib mattress second hand (free) from DH's manager, and borrowed a friend's co-sleeper. We got a glider off of Craigslist for $50. My dad/stepmom bought our decor (girly monkey/jungle set), and M/FIL bought our changing table. So... pretty cheap. LOL
This time, we're not as eager to get stuff, because we know that baby won't care one way or the other. As long as they have a safe place to sleep, we're good for at least 3 months. We're probably going to purchase our own co-sleeper since we still want/need one and we're not as close with the friends who lent us the other one last time. We also will most likely have to get a new crib, since the little screw holders (the ones that are in the wood) fell out during our move, and now we're kinda SOL with our crib. :\ So we'll see how that goes.

I think "normal" on nurseries is kind of overkill. If you want to and can afford to do it for you, that's fine, but don't do it for the baby. The baby won't know the difference.
Our nursery is in the corner of the master bedroom at this point, since the AAP recommends babies stay in the parents room the first 6 months. We've purchased a crib, a glider, and a monitor. And a lamp because it was too cute at a baby consignment sale. I don't know that we'll be purchasing much else. We have a couple old dressers, one of which we'll use for the baby once it has it's own room, but there isn't space in our room, so DH cleared out a drawer in his dresser for the first few months. We'll also get a changing pad with a strap to go on my dresser. It doesn't really seem like we'd need anything else. Even the glider kind of felt like overkill, except our house is kind of short on chairs to begin with, so I didn't want to bring one up from the living room for night feedings.

Can you share the citation? I have found lots of references to this recommendation, but I am having a lot of trouble finding the AAP's original recommendation.

I found it a while ago... But I didn't save it. Should have because I had a hell of a time finding it. They make some of these things so hard to find. I've had the same problem with ACOG. You'd almost think they don't want their recommendations to be found...
