My kitchen is completely bare except for two light fixtures. This is the only picture thats small enough to attach. I thought my kitchen would look bigger with nothing in it, but it looks even smaller.
I'm already worried, we haven't even ordered cabinets yet and the Home Depot ones take four weeks. But our contractor is doing work in the den and dining room, so hopefully these won't hold up the process.
What brand are you getting? We are getting all new ones- fridge, dishwasher, micro and stove. We are looking at GE because I can get a discount through a friends and family program.
and we have to do all the same stuff you mentioned. DH was looking at a $600 faucet last night at HD. I was like, no way in hell, for that much it better wash the dishes too! It was motion activated or something.

It is more important to us to get the best appliance to suit our needs rather than have them all match perfectly, so we don't buy all the same brand. Someone who makes a great dishwasher may not be as great at ranges or fridges, kwim?
That said, GE was not on our list..we have not beem impressed with the GE appliances we have had in the past. We did like our Frigidaire fange and microwave at our last house. They were the pro line. The stainless didn't show fingerprints, so that was nice. We had planned to get either the Frigidare or an Electrolux fridge until we found out we were moving, and decided to wait to buy. In this house we have a Bosch oven, Thermador cooktop, Leibherr fridge and Fisher & Paykel dishwasher.
Do not buy faucets at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.. They have cheaper parts (plastic rather than brass), than seemingly the same model from the same manufacturers at places that deal in fixtures and not everything under the sun. From my experience, the ones at HD cost as much and sometimes more than the ones that are built better.
I bought all of our fixtures for the kitchen, my studio and one bathroom online, and wound up with really nice faucets. I did a lot of price/model number comparing and read the fine print to make sure that I was getting something that was better quality or a better deal than I could find locally. Our contractors and even the building inspector kept commenting on how nice they were, how high quality and how you could tell they didn't come from HD. We didn't break the bank either.
We are all in this together! dr.girlfriend too. Lots of old kitchens are biting the dust this month! How old was yours? I think ours was from the 60s and had non-functioning cabinet doors and broken drawers. It was pathetic.
Yep, my demo started today! I took a bunch of "before" pics this morning just for you guys. ;-) Mine wasn't so bad, I think it was redone in the 90's, so all the cabinets were in good shape and functional, it was just very PINK, and the layout sucked.

I will admit, I fell for the touch-faucet. It was $400, I think. :-)
