Bowling Green is kind of boring, there isn't a lot around it (or wasn't when I was there 10-ish years ago). There is more to do in Toledo. BG is a college town. Not bad areas, just quiet.
It's flat, there's lot of corn, it get's cold and snows, I-75 sucks.
Honestly I enjoyed living there while I was there, (2005-2009, Findlay area close to Toledo). There are certainly several things that I miss from the area that I can't get in VA. Meijer's is awesome.
It's flat. And freezing cold in the winter as the wind just whips across campus. My dad and sister graduated from there and my cousin will be a junior in the fall. It isn't too far from Findlay, which has a little more to do. But, there isn't a lot just by BG.
BGSU is my under grad and my mom was born/raised in BG.
It's your typical college town, swarming with students in the fall/winter/spring and in the summer, it's pretty dead. Mostly chain restaurants and the shopping is pretty sad there. But they do have my beloved Meijer and Krogers.
I went to Toledo for law school - there is quite a bit more to do - shopping, restaurants, the art museum is one of the best IMO, the Mud Hens (minor league baseball), etc.
It is cold and the winters suck but it's Ohio so that shouldn't be a surprise.

You are a funny funny person. I would say that Toledo has some stuff to do, but Findlay isn't exactly bustling with excitement. Granted I haven't been back in 5 years, I don't imagine it's changed. Although they do have an amazing hole-in-the-wall coffee shop across from campus that I miss dearly.

Thanks every one! Sounds a lot like where I live now (small college town, population increase by 50% when school is in session) although it is closer to Toledo than I am to a city right now.
I just moved to Toledo from the DC area in April. I know nothing Jon Snow since I'm new here but I like it so far. I'm glad I have time to get acclimated before the snow comes.

Also, most importantly, I need to decide where to eat dinner when I'm there for my interview. Any local places I must check out? I'm a fan of anything from bar and grill greasy spoon on up...

Whenever I'm in BG (my DH went there) we hit up Campus Pollyeyes. They have these awesome "breadsticks" that are stuffed with chicken and cheese, and are AMAZING. Check it out: www.yelp.com/biz/campus-pollyeyes-bowling-green
BG is quiet, surrounded by corn fields (not kidding). But this means an easy way of living yet you are close to: all the BG activities Toledo - which has a lot of fun activities and things to do - including a great zoo. Lake Erie- quick drive so you can stay on Ohio's North Shore or ferry to the islands. Put-in-Bay on Middle Bass Island, Kelley's Island or jaunt over to Pelee Island in Canada. Detroit is a pretty quick drive and lots going on there so go by water or go by car. Columbus is 2 hours south and we have a ton of stuff going on.
Cleveland is probably 2 hours East (I don't drive Toledo to Cleveland often) with a bunch of great lakefront cities on the way. Sports, entertainment (restaurants, museums, great theater district).
The thing about Ohio - all of our major cities have great stuff and you can get to any of them from just about any part of the state quickly. (except extreme SE Ohio).
We have great airports close by - Toledo is more of a regional airport but when flying check prices at Detroit, Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton, it might be worth the trip to in $$ to drive a bit.
Columbus has so much going on - Arts/entertainment, food mecca, sports. It's a great town and people that visit here are always surprised.
My son is a BG grad, it was the right school for him. DD is a Miami (Ohio) grad, perfect school for her. I'm OSU - perfect for me.
Visit BG - check it out. People are really really nice there and it would be a very friendly, comfortable place to live yet you have very easy access to big city amenities.
If you want really big city - Columbus to Chicago is a very easy 6 hour trip. Ok - that sounds silly but it's an easy drive, great roads. If you fly you waste an hour in the airport, an hour in the air, probagly an hour on the ground getting luggage etc. .. might as well drive it. From Toledo, I'd guess it's 4 hours.

My BG grad son would say MYLES PIZZA 516 E Wooster St, Bowling Green, OH 43402 (419) 352-1504
If he is even anywhere near the area, he lives north of Dayton now, he always has to stop and get a pizza.
I agree with what everyone above has posted. Toledo is actually awesome, much more to do there (Mud Hens (minor league baseball), Walleye (minor league hockey - so fun), art museum, great zoo, outdoor craft festivals, etc). They also have a grocery store (it might be a chain? we don't have them here in southern ohio) called Anderson's. OMG i would spend all my free time at andersons if i lived up north.
ETA: that area is flat and get lots of snow. good people up there, though.

Toledo has a great Zoo, and a great hands on kids museum.
Other than that I'm from MI so we have a natural animosity with OH, although I'm not sure why. It might be a football thing. I've heard they are very tough with the speed limit and 75 is AWFUL.
We have Anderson's in Columbus - really a fun place - you can get all kinds of stuff there from housewares, paint, hardware, garden - and a great wine department.
We're in Columbus and really like it. It's kind of a cross-section of the US, which is why we get a lot of market research. The weather's not too bad and cost of living is good.
A lot of bars in bg, the cookie jar makes the best cookies and delivers, there's more in Toledo. The mud hens if you like baseball, the walleyes for hockey, the tigers in Detroit about an hour and a half or so from bg. Perryaburg would be a good in between place to live. A lot of parks, if you have kids the imagination station in downtown Toledo is ridiculously awesome.

My SDs from Michigan were like "you're moving to Ohio? Ewww". I said " Why is Ohio gross?". They had no idea lol
What's wrong with 75? I drove it from Toledo to Detroit, I didn't see anything wrong with it. ::shrug::
I barely ever see cops either.
You drove it this spring / summer right? I feel like winter / early spring it's awful, not PA turnpike awful, but not good. Highway patrol are heavier on the other side of Toledo, between Toledo and Findlay.
I have an on-campus interview at Bowling Green State U in a couple weeks. Talk to me about living in Ohio - the good, the bad, all of it.
I was just thinking "wow, how crazy that someone else has an interview there!" DUH! The sun doesn't shine in the winter. Cinnamon in chili and on pizza is gross. H thinks that Bob Evans is the best place on earth.

Yeah it was about a week ago.
Yeah Highway Patrol tends to pick up once all of the schools are coming back into session and the roads get worse with snow and ice.

A lot of the time, here in Columbus some people won't even say the name Michigan. They call it the state up north. For the most part, it's just good-natured, but it's a dedicated rivalry.
