First of all, is Mint still the go-to for tracking? I haven't used it actively in over a year, so let me know if there's some thing people are using successfully.
Ok, so I want to get back into tracking my spending, and I'm coming across the same problem I used to have (which probably led me away from mint a while ago). I spend a lot of freaking money at target. Some of that is to buy a gift, some is on groceries, and some is clothing, etc, etc. How do you separate out the total target tab easily? I know I can eyeball it, and assign different categories once it hits mint, but goddamn that's a lot of work.
Wait. I never set mint to track from target directly - I always just tracked my major credit cards and then my checking for all the random stuff. If I added my target credit card to Mint, is that how you track individual categories more easily? Will it separate charges for you? Probably not.
This is part of why I stopped using mint as much. My only solution was to lump groceries/household/clothes/toilettries/pets into one big budget category. Target and amazon purchases fall into this. Not super helpful at all since that's basically where all our money goes every month!
