I've only been to one of these ... #7, Benny Tudino’s in Hoboken NJ. It was just OK. The giant slice seems to be all that's special about it, and there's at least one other place in the area where you can get a huge pie (Gina's in Harrison).
My hometown, dumpy as it is, at least has several good pizza parlors. I moved 20 miles away, three years ago, and I have yet to find a decent place around my house I'm not too far from the famed Star Tavern in Orange, but I don't *love* it.
Why you should try it: For the mac ‘n’ cheese pizza, DUH. It’s mac ‘n’ cheese. ON PIZZA. From the state that does cheese better than any other. This is basically what you’ve been hoping for your entire life.
YESSSSSSSS!
It's been over 11 months since I had mac and cheese pizza, which is TOO LONG!!!
Wow, I'm surprised I have actually been to 3 of these places (considering I don't love pizza and I have never been to NYC).
Two Boots and Mozza in LA are both good but not amazing. Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix is pretty damn good but not sure if it's worth the 2+ hour wait every night. Although, I'm usually pretty buzzed from hanging out next door at the wine bar, so perhaps it's better than I remembered.

We do love Goodfella's but it's very unique gourmet pizza, not New York-style pizza. For some plain ol' pizza heaven on SI, there's Denino's and Joe & Pat's.
I *think* I've been to Pepe's. BIL and SIL had their wedding in New Haven and we had the rehearsal dinner at a pizza place. The pizza was delicious for sure.
I grew up near Di Fara and all the pizza around there used to be like that. That one wasn't even one of our favorites. Most of the stuff on that list doesn't even sound like pizza!

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think Frank Pepe's is pretty awful. The cheese pie has a Pepperidge Farm goldfish flavor. No Italian seasonings to speak of.

So much this. Can't argue with Joe's either. But there are other NY favorites I'd put on this list before Two Boots.
Although this list has inspired me to possibly head out to Di Fara this weekend, which I have always avoided since it's such a damn trek.
ETA: Velar, man, now I'm thinking of their fried calamari, which is complete perfection. And I have so many good memories of the food and my grandparents and the old hostess who always gave them a table no matter how crowded it was. Food conjures so much emotion.
The Cheeseboard is absolutely glorious. Not only is the pizza just delicious, but it's got a fantastic Soup Nazi kind of vibe that makes it one of those experiences that makes you say, "damn, so this is Berkeley."

That is awesome. The service is still very family-like. And then there's Ralph's across the street no matter how full you may be from Denino's...

i'm glad to hear it - they put a denino's down in NJ near my parents and it's not the same. we still go to SI a few times a year for denino's, but not often enough, that is for damn sure.
and egger's not too far away!! which, to this day, is my favorite ice cream of all time.
Zante's inclusion kind of cracks me up because we'd only order from there because back in the mid-80s they were the only place that delivered to our neighborhood. And we never ordered off their Indian menu. The whole Indian pizza thing didn't really become popular until the 00s. It wasn't even part of the name previously.

I can't wait to go back to Joe's pizza when we're in NYC next month. Yum.
If anyone comes to London and wants seriously good, authentic Italian pizza, let me know. It's out of the way, but it's sooooo good and excitingly for me, in my local neighbourhood!
