I have dual degrees in economics (concentration in money and banking) and German language. I worked for a bank after I graduated for about a year but hated it and quickly changed careers to medical device sales. I never ever used the German degree. Until this week.
I am making arrangements to import a hunting dog from Germany for DH. I have translated import documents, negotiated with the breeder and spent about 6 hours on the phone over the last two days with the airline regarding the logistics. I'm surprised at how much of the language has come back to me considering I haven't spoken a word of it in over 20 years.
How about you, do you use your college or other education in your work life, in your personal life or not at all?
Every once in a while a non-English speaking Chinese delivery guy will show up at my building, otherwise every once in a while I will open up a classical Chinese textbook and marvel at what I used to know.
Chemical engineering - I'm a materials engineer and quality systems manager. So sort of? I haven't solved any fluids problem or designed separation towers, but it's somewhat related.
My English degree gets used every day, as I'm an editor and couldn't get this job without that. But I didn't really learn anything in college that I need for my job. 4 years of reading literature doesn't exactly translate to pharmaceutical advertising.
I also have an Early Childhood Ed degree that I have (thankfully) never used. I hated student teaching so. much.
Auditors with higher selfactualization have a higher resistance. Auditors who value independence have a higher resistance. Auditors believe the power in the auditor client relationship is balanced. Auditors are influenced by client power. And auditors' attachment to independence is higher in theory than in practice.
Spanish came in handy when I went to Spain this summer, but I'm so rusty!
Philosophy comes in handy when people say things like "blah blah begs the question of whether..." and I can yell back "THAT ISN'T WHAT 'BEGGING THE QUESTION' MEANS!"
