We feel so much better about this allergy thing!!!!
We brought him to the Allergy and Immunology department of one of the hospitals here. The doctor went to Harvard Med School and I had read that she had worked in conjunction with another doctor in the city on the ImmunoCAP test.
She said she never would have tested L for tree nut allergy as the skin prickly tests have a 50% false positive rate.
He definitely shows sins of being allergic to peanuts so we did the ImmunoCAP for peanuts tree nuts. They are also testing to see which part of the peanut protein he is allergic to.
She didn't want to test for sesame and sunflower because of false positive rate. I've given him hummus and teriyaki sauce since last summer so I'm not worried about it.
She made me show her how to use the EpiPen.
I feel so much better.
Had to bribe L with a new toy and E slept through the whole thing.
Great news! Are those blood tests? How long until you get them back?
Yea ,they are all blood tests.
She said with a history of eating nuts and no eczema she thinks the allergy is mild . We get the results next week and she will either redo the skin test and/ or possibly do a food challenge at the hospital.
You sound so much more positive after this visit. I'm glad that you found a doctor you like and trust. Fingers crossed for the best possible test results.
