I'm looking for rugs for the nursery. To recap here is my inspiration board. We ended up getting the yellow and white patterned chair with the rounded arms (the straight sides I wanted were discontinued). In person that fabric looked the nicest because some of the others were all polyester, really stiff, or had a woven pattern with wide stitches that looked like they'd get caught on something and not last.
I'm looking for something not too kiddish with multiple colors so it can work with future color schemes. I need something large that would work with the light sage, coral, and yellow color scheme we're going for in this room. But also to work with the other spare bedroom color of light aqua/gray walls (think near silver sage only with more blue) as she'll probably move in there someday. Also I'd like something plush or tufted so it's more comfortable to sit on.
1) Radiante Ning Rug - this one is wild but fun, I'm not sure if it will work in the space, I can see a teenage girl still using this one
2) Catlin Wilson Dots - this is a popular designer right now and it's not meant to be in a kids room at all but I think it could work. I'm worried about all of the white though.
3) Zinc Door Rug - this is a fun one that I think would work well in a young kid's room
4) Loloi Madeline Rug - this is fun twist on a traditional look but I'm not sure how well it will go with the color scheme since it's mainly cool colors
5) Tessa Garden Rug - too old lady?
6) Suyra Dreamscape Rug
7) Homespun Trellis Rug - this is true pink not coral so I'm not sure if I'd need to change my color scheme
8) Dash & Albert Rug - very fun and bright but might be too much for the room
What do you think? Anyone have other ones they'd like to suggest?
I love the first rug for the colors and the pattern. I think the pattern would help hide any stains etc but it will also grow with her as well. Plus, there are a lot of colors that will give you more to work with later on.
I like them all but I vote 1 and 3. They'll grow better with baby, be more gender neutral down the line if they have to be and are dark enough to hide kid stuff.
I almost bought a spin off of 3 for or LR last week...but settled on red chevron instead (after I canceled that black one I posted about). So many rug decisions..ha.
I don't know if I'd worry about it working in the other room. I'd just leave it in the nursery and buy a new rug for the other room if needed (and you might change the color scheme in the other room someday anyway).
Anyway, I like 8 and 1 in the room the best, but I also like 6, just because, although it also has the problem of having a white background.
Thanks for all the input (and keep it coming)! I didn't think it would be so overwhelmingly for one or the other.
I always use these inspiration boards to help make my final decision and see how things go together. I put the first 3 in along with one of the rugs I originally wanted to use for fun last night.
I doubled the sample here because it was too small to see all of the colors otherwise.
Originally I was going to keep it really simple and use a yellow and white rug or a coral and white rug. Going with a yellow and white glider fabric meant a coral and white rug would look the best. I like this ikat one but it only comes in a flat weave. The only coral rugs I can find tufted are just big stripes or a small diamond pattern. Both boring and very matchy matchy with the room color scheme. Don't you think? They look cute but have a limited use with future color schemes.

I like most of the rugs you chose, all for different reasons, but what I would have loved when I was little is not what I would have been interested in as a tween or teen. kwim?
The problem with planning for future color schemes is that you have no idea if the colors you choose now (or the style that you choose now) will actually fit the personality or taste of your child. You may be able to steer the direction for some time, but some kids have their own opinions practically from the womb.
My sister and I shared a room, and she was easily steered by my mom, but I always had other ideas.lol We would argue about what color to paint the wall until we reached a compromise, but the truth is that we always wound up with a watered down version of a color that was something that my mom (the queen of white/off white walls) could put up with. We were allowed to choose bedding and decor though, so that part was great, but I would haev been a much happier kid if I had real color on the walls. Pastels have always made me really uncomfortable...still do.
