OMG! I miss tomato pie SO BAD. My dad would buy two. Eat one right away and freeze the other pieces individually. Next time I go home (a suburb of Philly) I am getting one.
Imagine a thick, porous dough like focaccia and then cover it in tomato sauce (not like a pizza sauce, this is thicker and usually has Italian spices in it), and then it's sprinkled with grated Romano and/or parmesan cheese. It's not hot and it's not cold, it's just served at room temperature.
I'm not actually that close. We live about 1.5-2 hours (depending on traffic) from Philly. But DH's work is based near Malvern so...
I work in Malvern (if he works for a huge company based in Malvern then I work with him) and I've heard that Anthony's has a really good tomato pie. It's sacrilege but they offer toppings on it too.
I've never tried theirs before but thanks to you I may be headed there for lunch.
This actually sounds delicious to me. I love Italian seasoning and parmesan/romano and marinara sauce. I might have to try and make that recipe that was linked.
