I dread going to sleep now because of my herniated disc. I usually wake up with pain, have to take more vicodin and hope I get back to sleep. Then in the morning I am like the tinman, barely able to move. I am going to give PT a couple of more weeks and then seriously start thinking about the surgery.
Im so sorry. And i know exactly what you're going through. I have a herniated disc and it was so painful. It took me about 2 mos before i was somewhat normal functioning again. Hope it heals on its own. How long have you had it for? I couldnt even walk for a few weeks.
Is the thermometer on the Motorola monitor accurate? It says it's 80 degrees in DS' room! That's with air conditioning and a ceiling fan. DH doesn't think it's accurate. I think it feels warm, but not 80.

I received the following instructions in an email about a race I'm doing this weekend:
"Gear up for the course. We HIGHLY recommend wearing the following: work gloves, long pants or really tall socks and eye protection (aka sunglasses). The course is mainly through the woods so there are little scratchy things and eye pokey things you will want to avoid.
4. Protect your ankles. Once again there are rocks, stumps and hidden ankle twisters out there. High-tops or ankle wraps are advisable. "
Ankle wraps and work gloves, lol. I may be in a bit over my head.
@starry Not a southerner, but your post just reminded me how much I miss Publix. I haven't had those honey wheat English muffins in over 4 years now. I think I loved Publix even more than Wegmans.
DD is going for a weight check tomorrow. I fear the doctor is going to severely side eye me because DD goes to sleep between 9 and 10 pm and wakes up between 8:30 and 9:30 am. She told me last time DD's schedule should be 7 am - 7:30 pm.
She took a while to get to her sleepy state tonight. I need to go shower now or else I will have zero time after she gets up tomorrow to shower before the side eyeing pedi appointment.

I've been wondering the same thing. Ours says 86 right now. It is in no way, shape or form that hot in there.
barefootcontessa, I had the surgery. Have you tried injections? If I could go back in time I would do that first.
My surgery helped (microdiscectomy), but they removed 25% of the disc vs the typical <10%. The remaining part did suffer further herniation later. I still feel like the tin man in the morning until I get moving.
We're going on an hour of J just being awake. I spent 45 minutes rocking and rubbing his back, that didn't work. Then I fed him, and he was asleep in my arms then as soon as I put him down he's awake. He's not crying he's just laying there wide awake. Good thing I have a facial booked for Friday because I have HUGE bags under my eyes from this wakeful.

Ds woke up crying and coughing at 10. He never wakes up at night. After 30 mins I gave him a cough suppressant and he finally fell back to sleep. Exactly 4 hrs later he was up again, 30 mins later gave him meds and he's asleep. I don't know what the deal is. He had a cold like 2 weeks ago and still has the lingering cough but that's typical and shouldn't affect sleep. I guess we will be at he pedi tomorrow.
Also dh has a work dinner tomorrow so he will be gone from about 5am-9pm. Sucks for all of us.

If he's not crying, I would leave him. Also I will respond to your pm tomorrow. Sorry I completely forgot about until now!
Thanks ladies. It was definitely time, just a sad day.
anna7602 thanks for the tip! I actually have a bottle of calcium magnesium supplements. Any idea what dosage you took?
I was taking something called "Natural Calm" that I mixed a teaspoon of with a mixture of hot and cold water. I've seen a similar magnesium mix at the Vitamin Shop branded under a different name.
I think most nuts are a natural source of magnesium as well, and pumpkin seeds, but double check this.
Apparently DH needed the massage more than me. He is a ball of nerves about having a second baby potentially and harping on insignificant crap. Great timing!
DH has been having a hard time sleeping lately due to second baby nerves. Not great.
Signed, someone who still knows almost all the produce codes by heart.
Sometimes I wonder if I will ever get that part of my brain back for remembering something more useful to my current life. I haven't worked at a grocery store in 12 years. 4011, 4060, 4065.
Bananas (per lb), broccoli (per item), green peppers (per lb). I'm the one you want to be behind at the self checkout.

Why is this side-eye worthy? It's still about 12 hours of sleep. School and summer camp force me to change this, but DD's natural sleep cycle is about 10pm-10am. This is the time of least-resistance for bedtime and the time she naturally wakes up when we don't have anything scheduled. It would be dreamy if I could ship her off to school for an 11am start time...

I'm not sure. She was just very insistent that the schedule should be from 7 am - 7:30 pm. I was embarrassed to tell her that I don't even wake up at 7 am so why would I want DD to wake up then and make me get up. She also told me to schedule nap times, as in toss DD in a crib and say "it's nap time" and leave. Well every time I've tried that DD either played in her crib for as long as I let her and napped on her own at a later time. Or she cried because she didn't want to be in the crib at which point I picked her up, put her on the floor where she happily rolled around, and again napped on her own later.
I'm giving her the benefit of doubt that she has a lot of parents of babies who have trouble with sleep so she just dispenses the same sleep advice to everyone. The appointment is in a few hours and I will see what she says today.

Grr, men. Sorry you're dealing with it too. I don't want to minimize his fears but get a diary, dude. My body is a temple right now.

thanks for sharing your experience. I am going to give PT another week and then see about the epidural injections. the doctor just increased my anti-inflammatory rx and is hoping if we can get the inflammation down the PT will be effective. I am sorry you had to have the surgery. back pain is no joke!

Oral steroids have also helped me quite a bit in the past. The epidural injection took a few weeks to help, but then the pain gradually went away over the next few months and it (knock on wood) hasn't returned with that severity.
FWIW, a poster on ML told me that Super B Complex has been life-changing for her nerve pain. I bought a bottle a few weeks ago and I'm trying it. If nothing else, it can't hurt.
